Second-half goals from substitute Leonardo Pavoletti and summer signing Serge Gakpe ensured a 2-0 success and the first points of the season for hosts.

The Grifoni took a deserved lead in the 57th minute. Hellas failed to clear a dangerous ball in the area and an unmarked Pavoletti struck a right-foot shot from 12 yards past goalkeeper Rafael.

Roma will have much greater depth with their summer arrivals, but will not change their shape, according to head coach Rudi Garcia.

Alessandro Florenzi's long-range strike secured a 1-1 draw for Roma in their opening day clash at Verona.

Debutant goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was beaten by Bosko Jankovic as the hosts took the lead just after the hour mark.

But Italy forward Florenzi struck five minutes later to ensure a share of the spoils.

Roma also handed a debut to Edin Dzeko and his first sight of goal arrived in the 16th minute when he connected with a volley from a tight angle, but the shot flew into the stands.

Toni, 38, scored 22 goals for Hellas Verona, the same amount as Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi, who is 16 years his junior.

And only two other forwards in Europe -- Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo -- have scored more goals than him in 2015.

Luca Toni scored 22 goals in Serie A last season.

Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni appeared in a Munich court on Wednesday as a dispute over claims he owes German authorities €1.7 million in church tax continues.

Toni, 38, is suing his former tax adviser in Germany for compensation, arguing that during his time as a Bayern Munich player he was registered as a Roman Catholic without his knowledge.

The former Italy international played for Bayern between 2007 and 2009 and under the terms of his contract the German club were expected to look...
