Hamburg's Alen Halilovic excited by 'big challenge' after leaving Barcelona

Alen Halilovic joined Barcelona from Dinamo Zagreb in 2014.

Alen Halilovic is excited and proud to have joined Hamburg after signing from Barcelona in a deal believed to be worth €5 million.

Halilovic, 20, completed the transfer on Thursday, when he put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Volksparkstadion with the option for Barca to buy him back for €10m within the next two years.

Alen Halilovic signs for Hamburg from Barcelona on four-year deal

Alen Halilovic spent last season on loan at Sporting Gijon.

Hamburg have signed midfielder Alen Halilovic from Barcelona for €5 million.

Halilovic, 20, joins the Bundesliga side on a four-year contract after spending last season on loan at Sporting Gijon.

The Croatia international was a regular for Sporting, although he never managed to make his first-team debut in the league for Barca following his arrival from Dinamo Zagreb in 2014.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has said defender Matthias Ginter remains part of the club's plans despite links with Arsenal, Hamburg and Wolfsburg.

Germany international Ginter, 22, joined Dortmund from Freiburg after the 2014 World Cup but has struggled for consistency at the Westfalenstadion.

Hamburg sign 18-year-old Gambian refugee Bakery Jatta

Bakery Jatta has already been training with Hamburg.

Hamburg have signed Gambian refugee Bakery Jatta on a three-year contract.

Jatta turned 18 a week ago, which allowed him to sign a professional deal. He already had been training with the first team.

Jatta fled his homeland in 2015 and arrived in northern Germany via Italy. He joined a football academy in Bremen and convinced Hamburg's staff to trial him.

He can play in several attacking positions. Jatta says he had never played in a club before.
