Monaco get back on track to beat Guingamp, restore lead atop Ligue 1

Monaco gain some separation between themselves and Nice at the top of the table with an away win at Guingamp.

Ligue 1 leaders Monaco returned to winning ways with a 2-1 triumph over Guingamp to restore their three-point lead.

Leonardo Jardim's side were held to a draw by Bastia last weekend and then lost 5-3 to Manchester City in a remarkable Champions League clash in midweek.

There was rather less drama at the Stade de Roudourou, although Etienne Didot did make it a nervous finish for Monaco with a 90th-minute goal.

Kamil Glik had given the visitors the lead in the 24th minute and an 86th-minute penalty...

Kylian Mbappe of Monaco celebrates with Radamel Falcao after scoring in a win against Metz on Saturday.
Kylian Mbappe struck three times for Monaco in a comprehensive win against Metz on Saturday.

Hull City fail to complete £9 million transfer of Guingamp's Yannis Salibur

Yannis Salibur of Guingamp
Guingamp's Yannis Salibur, right, was close to joining Hull City.

Hull have failed with their bid to sign Guingamp's Yannis Salibur.

The Tigers appealed to FIFA in an attempt to force through a reported £9 million move for the midfielder, following suggestions the paperwork for the deal was not submitted before the transfer window ended last week.

Hull left a space in their 25-man squad list submitted to the Premier League for the remainder of the season, in the hope Salibur would play a part.

Dimitri Payet, Memphis Depay score as Marseille, Lyon win in Ligue 1

Dimitri Payet Marseille celebration
Dimitri Payet's goal helped Marseille to a 2-0 defeat of Guingamp.

Former West Ham forward Dimitri Payet scored on his first start for Marseille in a 2-0 victory against Guingamp in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.

Payet, making only his second appearance following his return to the French club since he requested to leave the Hammers during last month's transfer window, netted a free kick in the 76th minute.

Bafetimbi Gomis, on a season-long loan from Swansea, had scored the opening goal of the game for Marseille with a diving header midway through the first half.

Memphis Depay scored his first goal in France, and Mathieu Valbuena scored in style as Lyon dominated Nancy.

Monaco demolish Nice in crucial derby in Ligue 1 as PSG defeat Dijon

Monaco celebrate after Radamel Falcao found the back of the net.
Monaco opened a three-point cushion atop Ligue 1 with victory over Nice.

Radamel Falcao scored two second-half goals as Monaco moved three points clear in Ligue 1 with a 3-0 victory in their much-anticipated top-of-the-table derby at home to Nice.

Valere Germain's 47th-minute header put Monaco in front before Falcao doubled up with a tap-in on the hour and then his 14th goal of the campaign 10 minutes from time at the Stade Louis II Stadium.

Both goal scorers owed much to the brilliant crossing of Benjamin Mendy as Monaco put distance between themselves and their nearest...
