Granada and Villarreal played out a dour 0-0 draw in the Primera Division on Sunday evening.

The best that can be said about the clash at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes is that it keeps Granada's unbeaten start to the season going, although that is as good as it gets.

Villarreal will view it as a handy point on the road - especially in the first game back after the international break - but both sides will need to develop a more clinical edge if they are to be involved in fewer games like this.

Elche grabbed a 1-1 draw with Granada in a Primera Division clash that burst into life late on.

Both teams had chances in a goalless first half but the second looked to be petering out into stalemate, only for Fran Rico to give the visitors an 82nd-minute lead.

However, Elche found a response and David Lomban equalised at the death.

Elche's Edu Albacar had an early header tipped over by Roberto Fernandez and they went close again four minutes later when Cristian Jonathas headed Damian Suarez's corner...

Granada came from a goal down to sink promoted Deportivo La Coruna 2-1 and get off to a winning start under new coach Joaquin Caparros.

The visitors took the lead in the first half through Ivan Cavaleiro, aided by some suspect goalkeeping from Stole Dimitrievski, but Ruben Rochina levelled 10 minutes into the second half before Jean Sylvain Babin put the hosts in front.

Making their return to Spain's top flight after suffering relegation 14 months earlier, Depor made a strong start to the game and...

Joaquin Caparros arrives from Levante.

Joaquin Caparros has made a swift return to Primera Division management by taking the head coach's role at Granada.

The well-travelled 58-year-old left Levante on Tuesday after talks over a contract extension broke down and he has now replaced Lucas Alcaraz at Granada.

A statement published on the Andalusian club's official website read: "Sevillan coach Joaquin Caparros will take charge of Granada for the next two seasons. The...
