Granada replace manager Abel Resino with Jose Ramon Sandoval

Jose Ramon Sandoval will guide Granada until the end of the season.

Granada have appointed Jose Ramon Sandoval as their coach until the end of the season.

Sandoval, the former Rayo Vallecano and Sporting Gijon coach, succeeds Abel Resino, who was sacked in the wake of Thursday night's 2-1 Primera Division home defeat to Espanyol.

The Andalusian club are currently six points from safety with four games of the league season remaining after Resino's brief reign.

Former Atletico Madrid coach Resino had only taken only 11 points from a possible 45 after taking over from...

Espanyol kept their hopes of qualifying for Europe alive by battling to a late 2-1 win at struggling Granada.

The Catalans took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Sergio Garcia but Granada levelled in the 73rd minute through Diego Mainz, only for Paco Montanes to restore Espanyol's lead 11 minutes later.

Sergio Gonzalez's side moved two points behind Malaga in seventh spot thanks to this win, but Granada's top flight status is looking ever more precarious, as they stay stuck on 25 points,...

Javi Fuego started the Valencia rout on Monday.

Valencia got their bid for Champions League football back on track with a 4-0 demolition of relegation-battling Granada on Monday night.

Valencia went into the match having won just one of their last four league games, while seeing their 10-match unbeaten run ended by Barcelona last week.

But that was all forgotten as goals from Javi Fuego, Daniel Parejo, Sofiane Feghouli and Alvaro Negredo saw Granada swept aside.

The win sees Valencia move back above Sevilla into fourth place, two points clear,...

Sevilla's Aleix Vidal, right, and Jose Antonio Reyes celebrate Diego Mainz's own goal in Sunday's draw.

Defender Diego Mainz scored at both ends as rivals Granada and Sevilla drew 1-1 at Estadio Los Carmenes.

The veteran Granada centre-back had put the home side into the lead with a towering header from a corner on 16 minutes.

However, Mainz then had the ball in the same net midway through the second half when he stabbed a cross past his own goalkeeper Roberto at the near post.

The draw was little good to either side's hopes at opposite ends of the table, with Sevilla chasing European qualification...

Almeria gave their hopes of beating the drop a timely lift with a 3-0 victory over fellow-strugglers Granada on Saturday.

Sergi Barjuan's side were without a win since February 8, but two goals from Thomas Partey plus a Javier Espinosa strike made sure of the points which lift them out of the bottom three in the Primera Division.

Granada, however, remain one place off the foot of the table and some four points adrift of safety.

The opening few minutes at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos were...
