Matt Smith maintained his stunning goalscoring record against Gillingham to secure his Bristol City team-mates a trip to Wembley as the sides drew 1-1 at Ashton Gate.

Fulham loanee Smith, who scored all four goals in their 4-2 Johnstone's Paint Trophy first-leg victory, cannot even play in March's showpiece event but he settled their progress, 5-3 on aggregate, with a first-half header - his seventh goal in three meetings with the Gills this season.

The lively Jermaine McGlashan had the 169 travelling...

Bradley Dack's deflected volley clinched Gillingham back-to-back home league victories for the first time since March as they overcame Oldham 3-2.

On-loan Gills striker John Marquis put the hosts in front with a low seventh-minute shot after being played through by Cody McDonald.

Marquis then took advantage of a mistake by Latics defender James Wilson to double the home side's advantage with an acute finish.

But Oldham captain Liam Kelly hauled his side back into the game. Oldham defender Connor Brown...

Jermaine McGlashan's late goal made sure Gillingham recorded their second win in six games as their second-half comeback condemned Coventry to a 3-1 defeat.

The deadlock was broken when Coventry midfielder Danny Swanson's run from the right flank was halted clumsily in the 34th minute by Josh Pritchard and Gary Madine sent home goalkeeper Stuart Nelson the wrong way from the resulting penalty.

Gillingham have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight home games and Coventry looked most likely...

Nicky Ajose, Harry Davis and Uche Ikpeazu were all on target as Crewe secured a 3-1 win over managerless Gillingham.

The Railwaymen's third success in their last four games moved them out of the bottom four. But caretaker boss Andy Hessenthaler is without a win in his three games in charge of a Gillingham side, who have now slipped into the relegation zone.

Ajose, who has extended his loan at Gresty Road from Leeds until the end of the season, offered an outlet with his pace throughout.

He kept his...

In-form Matt Smith scored all four goals in Bristol City's 4-2 victory at Gillingham in the first leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Area final.

Cody McDonald's fourth goal in five games gave the Gills the lead after six minutes as the striker latched onto Michael Doughty's through ball to fire past Frank Fielding.

City, twice winners of the competition, drew level after 18 minutes when Smith headed in at the front post following good play by Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

The duo combined again for...
