Athletic Bilbao claimed a first Primera Division win in four games with a 4-0 hammering of 10-man Getafe on Saturday.

Aritz Aduriz scored either side of half-time, the first coming from the penalty spot after Emiliano Velazquez was sent off for the visitors.

Ibai and Markel Susaeta then completed the scoring as Athletic moved up to eighth while Getafe are eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Bilbao made the better start with Mikel San Jose and Aduriz both missing the target with headers before...

Villarreal's torrid run continued as they were held to a 1-1 Primera Division draw at Getafe and remain without a win since March 8.

Marcelino's side looked to be heading for their first win in six matches in all competitions when Ikechukwu Uche broke the deadlock early in the second half from the penalty spot but his effort was soon cancelled out by Diego Castro, and Getafe held on for a point despite having just two shots on target all game.

And Villarreal's misery was compounded as influential defender...

Getafe bolstered their hopes of securing their Primera Division status for next season after moving 10 points clear of the bottom three by edging to a 1-0 win at struggling Elche.

Fredy Hinestroza scored the only goal of the game with only five minutes remaining in a rare attack for Getafe, after the hosts had spurned a series of chances in the first half.

Their lack of urgency came back to haunt them, however, and they remain just three points clear of the drop zone.

After a sleepy opening, Vicente...

Getafe moved seven points clear of the relegation zone by beating fellow strugglers Deportivo La Coruna 2-1 at home.

Alexis Ruano and Sergio Escudero both scored their first goals of the season to give Pablo Franco's side a two-goal lead at half-time, but the Galicians produced a much better performance after the break and had several chances to score before substitute Toche pulled a goal back in the 78th minute.

However, Victor Fernandez's side created few further openings and they remain one point...

Fernando Torres got his name on the scoresheet as Atletico Madrid beat Getafe.

Atletico Madrid followed up their nail-biting penalty shootout win over Bayer Leverkusen by comfortably beating neighbours Getafe 2-0 at the Vicente Calderon.

Fernando Torres -- who scored the final penalty against the Germans -- opened the scoring in the third minute following a free kick and Tiago doubled the advantage just before half-time, also converting from a set-piece.

This was Atletico's first league win in four matches following three successive draws and keeps them one point behind third-placed...
