Turkish club Genclerbirligi sack fifth manager of the season

If you happen to follow the Turkish top flight, it won't surprise you to learn that Genclerbirligi have parted company with their manager.

The Ankara-based club dismissed coach Yilmaz Vural on Tuesday after finally running out of patience with the 62-year-old. After all, he had been in charge for six whole days. Yes, you read that correctly. Six. Days.

Indeed, Vural's tenure at Genclerbirligi lasted just one game following his appointment last week -- a disappointing 2-0 defeat against the Super...

South Africa return makes most sense for Baxter after sack in Turkey

Stuart Baxter's tenure in Turkey ended after just two matches in charge of Genclerbirligi.
Stuart Baxter's tenure in Turkey ended after just two matches in charge of Genclerbirligi.

The only certainty a football coach has is that any contract he signs will have an end date at some point. Stuart Baxter, the Scotsman who was in charge of South African club Kaizer Chiefs last season, knew as much when he left South Africa for Turkey, which is why he only penned a 10-month deal with the Turkish club. However, he did not know his tenure would last just two matches.

Baxter was shown the door by Genclerbirligi before he'd even had a proper chance to introduce himself for reasons...

Match-fixing allegations vs. Galatasaray denied by Genclerbirligi

ANKARA, Turkey -- The president of Turkish club Genclerbirligi has denied accusations that his team's goalkeeper purposely gave away a decisive goal in a league game against Galatasaray.

The claim could implicate Galatasaray, who lead second-place Fenerbahce by three points with two matches remaining. Fenerbahce were barred by UEFA from three seasons of European competitions in a 2011 match-fixing scandal.

Genclerbirligi president Ilhan Cavcav says goalkeeper Ferhat Kaplan "could have reached out...

President of Turkish club Genclerbirligi to fine bearded players

Ilhan Cavcav has a moustache but evidently is not a fan of beards.

The president of Turkish club Genclerbirligi has decided to fine any of his side's players who sport beards by claiming they are a bad influence on youngsters.

Ilhan Cavcav, who sports a moustache himself, will fine players 25,000 Turkish Liras -- around 7,150 pounds -- if they do not follow his demands, and says players such as Olcay Sahan, Volkan Demirel, Selcuk Inan and Besiktas manager Slaven Bilic are setting a poor example.

"I am 80 years old, and I shave every single day," the Guardian reports...
