Jordan Burrow and Danny Johnson struck within four first-half minutes as Gateshead brushed aside Chelmsford City 2-0 to reach the second round of the FA Cup.

The Heed should have been ahead early on, but defender Neill Byrne blazed his close-range effort over.

But the hosts took a deserved lead on 30 minutes when Wes York's teasing cross from the left was perfect for Burrow, who glanced a header beyond Michael Spillane.

The home side doubled their lead just four minutes later - Russell Penn teeing up...

Ross Hannah bagged a brace as Chester came from behind to claim a 4-2 victory over Gateshead.

Rob Ramshaw broke the deadlock for Gateshead after 51 minutes after he bundled home CJ Hamilton's cross.

But Chester grabbed an equaliser on the hour when Kane Richards nodded home before Ryan Higgins 25-yard effort gave them the lead two minutes later.

Hannah's 25th and 26th goals of the season clinched all three points for the Blues before Daniel Johnson tapped in a late consolation.

Tony Pulis looking forward to working with Saido Berahino at West Brom

Saido Berahino struck four against Gateshead.

Tony Pulis hailed Saido Berahino after the striker's four goals inspired West Brom to an FA Cup romp.

The England under-21 international netted an 11-minute hat trick either side of half-time as the Baggies thrashed Gateshead 7-0.

It was Pulis' first game after being appointed as head coach at The Hawthorns on Thursday.

Technical director Terry Burton has conceded Albion could sell Berahino in January but the club have so far had no offers for the player.

He took his tally to 13 for the season against...

Tony Pulis waves to West Brom supporters ahead of the game.

Saido Berahino's four-goal blast saved West Brom's blushes as they eventually hammered Gateshead 7-0 to hand Tony Pulis a winning start.

The England Under-21 international took his tally for the season to 13 as the Baggies netted five goals in 13 minutes.

Victor Anichebe, Chris Brunt and James Morrison also scored to ease any worries after Gateshead threatened an upset.

The bright visitors outplayed their hosts for the majority of the first half and John Oster fired their best chance over.

South Africa international Matty Pattison was among the scorers as Gateshead progressed into the FA Cup third round for the first time in 60 years with a 2-0 win over Warrington Town.

Pattison swept home Rob Ramshaw's cross after just eight minutes and the Heed wrapped up the win when substitute Danny Wright scored in added time as Warrington, the lowest-ranked team left in the second round, pressed for an equaliser.

The opening goal came after John Oster played in Ramshaw, who shrugged off the challenge...
