Hellas Verona seal promotion back to Serie A over Frosinone

Hellas Verona are back in Serie A following their relegation last season.

Hellas Verona sealed an immediate return to Serie A with a draw on the final day of the Serie B season on Thursday.

Verona's goalless draw at Cesena was enough to see them finish second above Frosinone thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Frosinone beat Pro Vercelli 2-1 but will settle for the playoffs alongside Benevento, Spezia, Cittadella, Carpi and Perugia.

Frosinone would have avoided the playoffs if they had ended the regular season 10 points clear of fourth place. However, Perugia and Benevento...

Serie A games could face match-fixing investigation - report

An investigation into match-fixing in Italy may be expanded to include fixtures from Serie A, according to a report in La Repubblica on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, it was revealed how anti-mafia police in Italy had made 10 arrests in relation to a suspected manipulation of two Avellino fixtures in Serie B in 2014.

According to La Repubblica, a consortium of Italian bookmakers has prepared a dossier evidencing anomalous betting behaviour on five Serie A matches from the 2015-16 season.

Each of the...

Frosinone vs. Napoli betting activity prompts investigation

Unusual betting activity in the city of Frosinone before the club's Serie A defeat to Napoli on Saturday has led to an investigation being opened into a suspected manipulation of the game.

Three betting companies -- Intralot, Eurobet and Goldbet -- all noted large sums of money being placed on accumulator bets that involved one Frosinone player being sent off and Napoli winning the game.

Frosinone midfielder Mirko Gori was shown a red card after just 13 minutes of the game for kicking the ball against...

Gonzalo Higuain wrote himself into the Serie A record books as his hat-trick fired Napoli to a 4-0 win over 10-man Frosinone, which seals their runners-up spot.

Higuain's 19-minute second-half treble sees him become the first man to ever score 36 goals in a Serie A campaign, nudging ahead of AC Milan's Gunnar Nordahl, who scored 35 in 1949-50.

It was also a night to remember for Marek Hamsik, who put himself alongside the legendary Diego Maradona in scoring 81 league goals for Napoli - the second highest...

Frosinone were relegated from Serie A after just one season in the top flight thanks to Matteo Politano's late goal in a 1-0 victory for Sassuolo.

Last year's Serie B runners-up were four points adrift of safety heading into Sunday's game at Stadio Matusa and needed both Palermo and Carpi to lose ground, against Fiorentina and Lazio respectively, to support an unlikely survival bid.

Both rivals would drop points, but Sassuolo substitute Politano's 85th-minute strike nevertheless ensured an instant...
