Over 100 fans arrested after violence before Fluminense vs. Vasco da Gama

Violence occurred outside of the Engenhao stadium on Sunday.

Brazilian police detained more than 100 football fans ahead of a high-profile match in the Rio de Janeiro state championship on Sunday.

Authorities said supporters of Fluminense and Vasco da Gama were taken into custody after fighting outside the Engenhao stadium.

Fred, left, has warned fans that Fluminense will not play should the players continue to be threatened by fans.

SAO PAULO -- Former Brazil striker Fred warned on Thursday that he and his Fluminense teammates might not play this weekend following threatening behaviour by fans after the team's recent run of defeats.
