West Ham to face FC Astra in Europa League third qualifying round

West Ham will face FC Astra Giurgiu or Romania in the Europa League third qualifying round after surviving penalties in Malta on Thursday.

The Premier League side played with 10 men for over an hour against Birkirkara after James Tomkins was sent off, and will resume their campaign at home next Thursday.

FC Astra advanced after a goalless draw with Inverness, going through 1-0 on aggregate.

Europa League draw: Southampton handed Vitesse Arnhem test

Southampton will face Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem in the third qualifying round of the Europa League, while West Ham were handed a potential tie against Scottish Premiership side Inverness Caledonian Thistle should they both progress.

Saints finished seventh in the Premier League last season and so were among the sides for Friday's draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

The fixture will see Southampton manager Ronald Koeman return to the Netherlands, where he previously managed Vitesse before moving to England.

MOSCOW -- UEFA has confirmed that Rubin Kazan will replace fellow Russian club Dinamo Moscow in the Europa League after the latter broke financial fair play rules.

Dinamo were handed a one-year ban from European competition by UEFA last month after an investigation into overspending and now plan major budget cuts.

UEFA confirmed Thursday to The Associated Press that Dinamo's place will go to Rubin, who will start play in the third qualifying round of the Europa League on July 30.

Mubarak Wakaso joins Celtic on loan

Celtic have completed the loan signing of Ghana winger Mubarak Wakaso.

The 24-year-old, who played in the World Cup, arrives on a one-year loan deal with Celtic having the option to buy the player from Russian side Rubin Kazan.
