FC Basel player Aldo Kalulu had a banana thrown at him as he took a corner at FC Zurich.

FC Zurich have condemned the fan who threw a banana at FC Basel's Aldo Kalulu as he took a corner in their match on Sunday.

The Swiss club said the banana had been thrown from the part of the St Jakob Park stadium that was occupied by their supporters.

"In the early stages against Basel, a banana was thrown out of FCZ's fan zone towards FCB player Aldo Kalulu when he went to take a corner," Zurich said in a statement.

"The club strongly condemns this racist behaviour and does not tolerate it in...

FC Zurich player channels his inner 'Humpty Dumpty' in goal celebration gone wrong

Benjamin Kololli went from hero to zero in a matter of seconds during FC Zurich's Europa League match on Thursday.
Benjamin Kololli went from hero to zero in a matter of seconds during FC Zurich's Europa League match Thursday.

While not always the best football, the Europa League is, if nothing else, always entertaining. Thursday nights on the continent seem to produce as many bloopers as they do belters, as many howlers as they do highlights, and more than anything just the outright wacky. Raphael Dwamena will not be joining Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brighton have pulled out of the transfer of FC Zurich striker Raphael Dwamena after the player failed a club medical.

The Seagulls had previously agreed terms with both Dwamena and the Swiss club over the potential deal for the 21-year-old, which would have been subject to a work permit.

Dwamena, who was reported to be set to cost around £8 million, was ready to join the Premier League club on Monday evening after just seven months at Stadion Letzigrund following his transfer from Red Bull...

Roberto Rodriguez ensured another frustrating Europa League night for Villarreal by converting a late penalty to earn FC Zurich a 1-1 draw.

Second-half substitute Rodriguez, who also hit the crossbar, buried an 87th-minute spot kick high into the net for the Group L minnows to cancel out Villarreal skipper Bruno's first-half header.

Group favourites Villarreal, who finished fourth in LaLiga last season but lost to Monaco in the Champions League play-offs, were thwarted on several occasions by Zurich...

Man United stunned at Fenerbahce as Aritz Aduriz nets 5, Saints beat Inter

Manchester United's troubles away from home in Europe continued in a 2-1 defeat at Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday as Paul Pogba limped off injured.

United, who are winless in their last nine European away games and have lost eight of them, looked out of sorts as Moussa Sow's second-minute overhead kick and a Jeremain Lens free kick provided the Turkish side with three points.

Jose Mourinho's side made the worst possible start to the game, falling behind in spectacular fashion...
