Olympiakos defeat Xanthi in Greek Cup final

Olympiakos celebrate after winning their 27th Greek Cup trophy on Saturday.

ATHENS, Greece -- Olympiakos won the Greek Cup for a record 27th time by beating Xanthi 3-1 in the final in Athens' Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

It was also a record 17th double for Olympiakos, who won their 42nd league title.

Franco Jara, Alejandro Dominguez and Costas Fortounis scored for Olympiakos, while Pantelis Kapetanos netted Xanthi's consolation goal.

Greek federation upholds league suspension

ATHENS, Greece -- The Greek football association has upheld its decision to suspend the country's league matches after failing to reach an agreement with clubs on measures to protect referees from potential attacks.

A statement on Thursday from the governing body says matches in the first, second and amateur third division remain suspended indefinitely following the street assault last week on senior refereeing official Christoforos Zagrafos.

Linfield's Euro adventure ends

Linfield bowed out of the Europa League as 10-man FC Xanthi battled for an away-goals win in extra time at Windsor Park.

The Irish side held a 1-0 lead from the first leg but could not defend their advantage, despite seeing the visitors reduced to 10 men just before half-time when Konstantinos Fliskas was sent off.
