Union Berlin announce €38m plan to take stadium capacity to 37,000

Union Berlin fans will be watching their football in a 37,000-capacity stadium by 2020.

Union Berlin have announced plans to increase the capacity of their Alten Forsterei stadium from 22,012 to around 37,000 by 2020.

The €38 million reconstruction work, due to begin in 2019, will mean the stadium has a standing capacity of 28,692 -- just short of the 29,400 at Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion.

Seating capacity, meanwhile, will be increased to more than 8,000 seats to meet German Football League requirements for top-flight football.

Prior to the match, a report in the Berlin media said...

Youth. Dortmund's squad may be decimated by injuries, but even with some options left, Tuchel granted three teenagers a start ahead of the derby meaning that at least some players got a rest ahead of the all-important Revierderby against Schalke...

Depleted Dortmund's depth to be tested once again vs. Union Berlin

Wednesday night Borussia Dortmund host 2. Bundesliga side Union Berlin in the second round of the DFB Pokal. Although the German cup is the most realistic chance for the Black and Yellows to win a trophy this season, the focus going into the match will be somewhat diverted to Saturday's big Revierderby against Schalke.

On paper, a home match against any side from Germany's second division should be a routine win. However, the most recent 3-3 draw against Ingolstadt gave proof that routine...
