FIFA questions RFU over response to Emmanuel Frimpong abuse

Russia's preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup are continuing to make progress, despite ongoing investigations into the bid process by Swiss authorities.
Emmanuel Frimpong has criticised the RFU for failing to punish Spartak Moscow for their supporters' actions.

FIFA has asked the Russian Football Union (RFU) to explain why it banned FC Ufa midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong for two matches for his reaction to racism from Spartak Moscow fans while not punishing the alleged abusers' club.

In video from Friday's Russian Premier League game, Spartak fans could be heard racially taunting former Arsenal player Frimpong.

The Ghanaian made a gesture with his finger in response to the taunts, which saw him banned for two games, while Spartak escaped punishment over...

Spartak Moscow, whose fans were accused of taunting FC Ufa midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, were not punished.

The incident happened in the opening game of the Russian Premier League season on Friday.

Hulk blasts Russia over racism in 'almost every game'

Yaya Toure has welcomed FIFA's new system of match observers to monitor incidents of racism and discrimination at FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the build-up to the 2018 tournament in Russia - and says some form of abuse can 'break' players.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia -- Zenit St. Petersburg's star striker Hulk says he encounters racism in "almost every game" in Russia and the Brazil international fears it could tarnish the country when it hosts the 2018 World Cup.

Hulk, the most expensive signing in Russian Premier League history, has repeatedly faced monkey chants in Russia and also accused a referee of racially abusing him.

"If [racism] happens in the World Cup, it will be really gross and really ugly. Usually it happens when Russian...

Emmanuel Frimpong claims racial abuse led to red card in Russia

Emmanuel Frimpong released a four-tweet explanation after Friday's sending off.

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has claimed he was racially abused before being sent off on the opening night of the Russian Premier League season.

The 23-year-old was playing for Ufa at Spartak Moscow when he saw red, seeming to make an obscene gesture at supporters.

He said after, though, that he had been reacting to provocation from a home fan.

Writing on Twitter, he said: "First of want to apologize for the sending off after being provoked shouldn't have happened but also am a human...

Former Arsenal player Frimpong celebrates big win on Mayweather

Like many people, former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong made Saturday night's stellar boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao all that more interesting by having a bet.

Frimpong, currently of Russian side FC Ufa, slapped a considerable £50,000 on Mayweather to win, freely admitting on Twitter that he was gambling with his pension money.

This being Frimpong we're talking about, it should come as no surprise to anybody that the 23-year-old live-tweeted the whole thing, running...
