Nacional sign Enugu Rangers' Christian Madu

CD Nacional have signed midfielder Christian Madu from Enugu Rangers, the Portuguese club have confirmed.

The 25-year-old has joined the Madeira-based outfit on a four-year deal according to a statement on the club's website.

He joins a considerable African contingent at the Estadio da Madeira, with Mozambique's Witi, Okacha Hamzaoui of Algeria and Cameroonian goalkeeper Ohoulo Fremlin having turned out for the club recently.

The defensive midfielder was a feature in the NPFL-winning team of 2016...

Lobi Stars pull further clear at the top

Lobi Stars moved five points clear at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 home win against Sunshine Stars.

The game in Makurdi was decided by Kehinde Abayomi's 73rd-minute own goal, a result which piles further pressure on Sunshine, who are struggling in the relegation zone.

Nyima Nwagua salvaged an away point for Kano Pillars at Heartland in a 1-1 draw in Owerri on Sunday. The bottom club stunned their more illustrious opponents in the 28th minute...

Saka extends Lobi's lead as Oriental Derby ends goalless

Ayo Saka struck a late winner to extend Lobi Stars' lead to six points, while the ninth Oriental Derby of the season failed to ignite and ended in a goalless affair.

Saka was the match-winner for Stars; the veteran midfielder's 81st-minute effort earning the leaders a 1-0 victory against 10-men Kano Pillars.

Chris Madaki was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence and, within a minute, his dismissal had dire consequences as Saka headed home Ebube Duru's cross.

It was fourth time...

NPFL wrap: Top four remain unchanged

The title-favourites in the Nigeria Professional Football League failed to show the stuff of champions on match-day 14, on an exciting weekend which saw the top four remain unchanged with 29 goals scored.

Lobi Stars completed an impressive comeback to earn a 3-2 home win against Rivers United, a result which ensured they opened a three-point lead at the top. The leaders had trailed at the half-time interval despite going ahead through Ezekiel Mbah's 18th-minute penalty.

The visitors turned the...

NPFL Preview: Enyimba, Enugu Rangers set to collide in Oriental Derby

The showdown between the People's Elephant and the Flying Antelopes in Enugu has the potential to be a thriller, with the former arguably favourites heading into the clash after losing just one of the last six meetings between the pair.

They're also on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league, and will be confident of exposing a Rangers side who are enduring an inconsistent season. Only a win for the hosts will guarantee they remain in the top four.

In another Eastern derby, FC Ifeanyi Ubah are aiming...
