Is the balance of power shifting in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League?

FC Platinum finally bagged their coveted maiden league title after years of underachievement this season, and their success reinforces the perception that the balance of power is shifting away from the traditional giants in Zimbabwe's Premier Soccer League.

Indeed, following decades of often monotonous dominance by the big three of Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United, Platinum, along with fellow upstarts Ngezi and Chicken Inn, appear primed to upset the established order.

However, don't expect...

Dynamos, Platinum win to take title race to the wire

Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League log leaders FC Platinum took a decisive step towards a first league title after coming from behind to dispatch Ngezi Platinum 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash at Mandava Stadium.

However, second-placed Dynamos' 3-2 away win over Bantu Rovers means the title race will go to the wire.

Chibuku Cup: Dynamos, Highlanders booted out

Harare giants CAPS United were the only big team to progress past the first round on a weekend of upsets in the Chibuku Super Cup after dismissing holders Ngezi Platinum 1-0 at Baobab Stadium on Sunday.

Moses Muchenje converted from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark and there was to be no way back for Ngezi, who must now focus on the title race to avoid emerging empty-handed from a season that had promised much not too long ago.

It was a double celebration in a way for CAPS fans after derby...

Dynamos will look to prolong their return to form when they visit Beitbridge for a clash against bottom-placed Tsholotsho in the Zimbabwe Premier League on Saturday.

The former champions go into the encounter on the back of a two-match winning run, which has spared them the embarrassment of hovering perilously close to the relegation zone.

The Harare giants now sit eighth in the standings with 14 points from nine matches, 11 behind high-flying log leaders Ngezi Platinum, who have played two games...

Violence rocked Zvishavane on Sunday as Highlanders fans once again rioted to force the abandonment of their clash against FC Platinum.

There were no goals in a first half of few openings, but right-back Tendai Ngulube struck for Bosso with 13 minutes to go to seemingly hand them the win.

However, Platinum were awarded a penalty three minutes into added time, and goalkeeper Petros Mhari converted to spark violent protests from the travelling supporters, who threw missiles onto the pitch to force...
