Inverness defender Josh Meekings feels Dundee United's summer talent drain is a good thing for Scottish football - but he admits Caley Thistle have benefited from keeping their team intact.

Inverness retained all their first-team players in the close season, including Northern Ireland striker Billy McKay, while United sold young Scots Ryan Gauld and Andy Robertson to Sporting Lisbon and Hull for a combined fee of more than B£5million.

But both teams have started the season well and go into their meeting...

A late penalty from Nadir Ciftci helped Dundee United overcome 10-man Partick Thistle 1-0 at Tannadice to close the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Hamilton.

Ciftci stuck from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute after he was brought down by Thistle captain Daniel Seaborne, who was sent off for his last-man foul.

Partick were the better team in the second half but Ciftci's spot-kick means Jackie McNamara's side now sit just one point behind Hamilton, despite not being at their best in this match.

Tope Obadeyi scored his third goal in two games to send Kilmarnock on their way to third place in the Scottish Premiership with a 2-0 victory over leaders Dundee United.

The hosts dominated for long spells in the first half and hit the bar through Josh Magennis, who caused the United defence countless problems with his pace and power.

Dundee United remained top of the Scottish Premiership with a deserved 2-0 win over Tayside opponents St Johnstone at Tannadice.

Jackie McNamara's side continued their recent run of fine form as they got the better of Tommy Wright's indifferent visitors with goals in either half from Chris Erskine and Paul Paton.

It was no more than United merited after back-to-back wins over Dundee in the league and League Cup in the past week.

Jaroslaw Fojut's stoppage-time winner handed Dundee United a League Cup quarter-final slot as their 1-0 win at Tannadice extended the Arabs' unbeaten run against city rivals Dundee to a decade.

The Dark Blues had played for more than an hour with 10 men but failed to cling on as the Polish centre-half powered home his dramatic header.

Jackie McNamara's team had eased past the Dark Blues with a four-goal Scottish Premiership thrashing on Sunday.

But Sunday's romp did not stop the United boss ringing...
