Frank Lampard: New York City FC problems not due to lack of effort

Justin Meram's right-footed effort late in the second half would prove to be the deciding goal as the Columbus Crew triumphed 2-1 over NYCFC at Yankee Stadium.
As NYCFC and Columbus approached full-time, the Crew's forward Kei Kamara did everything in his power to put his side ahead, including receiving a yellow for redirecting a cross into the net with his hands.
ESPN FC's Adrian Healey and Taylor Twellman discuss the LA Galaxy's 5-1 win over New York City FC and explain what NYCFC must do to secure a spot in MLS playoffs.

New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard defended the spirit of the club's players after manager Jason Kreis reacted angrily to the 2-1 defeat to Columbus Crew at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

Kreis, who believes the result means his side need to win their remaining seven games to make the playoffs, said he "couldn't be more disappointed."

"The players need to show if they want to be here and be a part of this," the MLS website quoted him as saying.

Kendall Watson and Matias Laba were shown red cards, putting Vancouver down to nine men for nearly 30 minutes of action.

Rodriguez capped the scoring in the 87th minute, putting away a corner kick...

DC United gives up three points at home after a pair of goals by the San Jose Earthquakes.

Chris Wondolowski scored his 12th goal of the season four minutes into the game and the San Jose Earthquakes beat Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United 2-0 on Saturday.

Coming off a 5-0 win at Sporting Kansas City, the Earthquakes grabbed the lead when Fatai Alashe punched a pass to the right side of the goal box and Wondolowski was able to turn on the ball and right-foot a shot into the bottom of the far corner.

Shea Salinas added his second goal of the year in the 52nd minute.

DC United beat RSL on record day for goals; NYCFC lose in Lampard's debut

DC United became the first team in MLS history to come back from two goals down in back to back games as they outlasted RSL in a 10-goal thriller.

Perry Kitchen broke a 4-4 tie in the 79th minute and DC United beat Real Salt Lake 6-4.

The 10 goals fell one short of the MLS single-game record.

Kitchen's header, off of a long service from Taylor Kemp, beat Jeff Attinella for the difference-maker. Nick Deleon's left-footed blast from way outside provided insurance six minutes later.

The teams combined for seven goals in the second half, one short of the record for most goals in a half.

Real Salt Lake jumped ahead 2-0 on goals by Joao Plata and...
