Colorado picks Mike Grella in re-entry draft, deals him to Columbus

Mike Grella is now a member of the Columbus Crew following stage 1 of the MLS re-entry draft.

The Colorado Rapids selected former New York Red Bull Mike Grella during Stage 1 of Major League Soccer's re-entry draft on Friday and then promptly traded him to Columbus Crew SC for a second-round pick in the 2019 SuperDraft.

Grella, 30, spent the last three seasons with the New York Red Bulls, but his contract option was not picked up thus making him available for the re-entry draft.

The former Leeds United player scored 16 goals and 13 assists in his first two seasons at Red Bull Arena, but...

LAFC trades for Laurent Ciman after expansion draft

Major League Soccer: Marcos Urena (90') San Jose 3-2 Minnesota
Bradley Wright-Phillips and Laurent Ciman
Laurent Ciman is headed to Los Angeles FC after Tuesday's trade.

Los Angeles FC acquired the Montreal Impact's Laurent Ciman in a trade for two players the new MLS club acquired in the expansion draft hours earlier.

Montreal will receive defenders Jukka Raitala and Raheem Edwards, whom LAFC selected with its final two picks in the draft from Columbus and Toronto, respectively.

Ciman, 32, was named MLS defender of the year in 2015 and helped Belgium qualify for the World Cup this year.

"Laurent is a top defender who provides leadership and great distribution,"...

Garber provides insight on potential Crew relocation in exclusive interview

ESPN's Taylor Twellman catches up with MLS Commissioner Don Garber to discuss the current situation at the Columbus Crew.

TORONTO -- MLS commissioner Don Garber said it was still possible for Columbus Crew SC to remain in Columbus, but overall he painted a sobering picture of the franchise's chances of staying in the Ohio capital.

Crew SC owner Anthony Precourt announced in October that he was exploring the option of moving the team to Austin, Texas. It later emerged that as part of Precourt's purchase agreement when he acquired the team in 2013 from Hunt Sports Group, he had an out clause that allowed him to move...

Crew SC signs Artur on permanent deal from Sao Paulo

Artur will spend 2018 with Columbus after all.

Artur will be staying with Columbus Crew SC after the MLS club retained the midfielder's services in a permanent transfer.

After spending 2016 on loan with Columbus, the 21-year-old Brazilian posted a tweet last week to thank fans, seemingly drawing an end to his time in the U.S.

Reports said Artur's parent club had rejected Columbus' offer of $1.5 million for half of Artur's rights, but Crew SC continued to negotiate and completed the move on Wednesday.

"Artur was one of the most promising young...

Ohio cities Cincinnati, Columbus on opposite paths of MLS's future

Columbus fans voice their dissatisfaction with the proposed relocation of the club and discuss the #SaveTheCrew movement.

Political and business leaders in Cincinnati are pushing toward their goal of scoring a Major League Soccer franchise, while in Ohio's capital city, soccer supporters are on defense.

In a few years, Ohio could have two MLS teams. Or still just one.

Or nil.

The 22-year-old league's growth plan got shaken when the owner of the Columbus Crew, one of its 10 original teams, announced in October he could seek to move the team to Austin, Texas, if Columbus can't come up with a new stadium in a downtown...
