Columbus Crew SC beats NY Red Bulls, Portland holds off FC Dallas

Justin Meram's goal after 10 seconds gave the Columbus Crew a lead they never relinquished, beating the NY Red Bulls 2-0.

Kei Kamara scored in the 85th minute to secure Columbus Crew SC's 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls in the first leg of the teams' MLS Eastern Conference final.

Justin Meram got Columbus on the scoreboard just 10 seconds into the match from a long ball following the kickoff. Kamara flicked the pass on to Ethan Finley who found Meram in the center of the box. The midfielder calmly volleyed home past Red Bulls' goalkeeper Luis Robles.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two minutes into second-half injury time and the New York Red Bulls beat D.C. United 1-0 on Sunday to advance to the MLS Eastern Conference finals.

The Red Bulls, who won the first leg of the two-game series 1-0 last week in Washington, advanced on aggregate goals 2-0, marking the second straight year they have beaten their I-95 rivals in the semifinals.

Johan Venegas scored the winner in the 77th minute as the Montreal Impact defeated Columbus Crew 2-1.

Columbus Crew coach Gregg Berhalter says he was satisfied with how his side limited Didier Drogba's chances in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semifinal and hopes for more of the same this Sunday.

The Crew kept Drogba off the scoresheet last week but Montreal still won their home leg 2-1. The teams return to Columbus for the second leg on Sunday (5 p.m. ET, ESPN), and Berhalter said he remains wary of Drogba's goal-scoring ability.
