Wayne Rooney hat trick ends Man United drought - 'I know my quality'

Wayne Rooney ended his goal-scoring drought in style by netting a hat-trick in his side's 4-0 victory over Club Brugge.
Wayne Rooney bagged a hat-trick in his side's convincing 4-0 victory over Club Brugge which sees them qualify for the Champions League.

Wayne Rooney said that he had the strength of character to ensure his 10-game Manchester United goal drought did not dent his confidence after he ended it in style with a hat trick against Club Brugge on Wednesday.

Roney, 29, ended an 878-minute wait for a United goal before scoring three times in a 4-0 win against the Belgian side, securing a 7-1 aggregate triumph and a place in the Champions League group stages.

Club Brugge need 'great miracle' to oust Man Utd - Michel Preud'homme

Club Brugge manager Michel Preud'homme says that his team matched Manchester United before going down to 10 men, ahead of their second leg match.

Club Brugge need a "great miracle" to overcome Manchester United on Wednesday and advance to the Champions League group stage, says coach Michel Preud'homme.

The Belgian club must erase a 3-1 deficit in the second leg of the playoff round tie after last week's defeat at Old Trafford.

A Michael Carrick own goal had given Preud'homme's a shock early lead, but the joy was short-lived as Memphis Depay scored a brace, and a stoppage-time goal from Marouane Fellaini made United's lead comfortable.

David De Gea, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo miss Man United's Club Brugge trip

Despite insisting that goalkeeper David de Gea will remain at the club, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has once again left him out of the squad for a Champions League appearance.
Despite only scoring two goals in the Premier League so far, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has insisted that he has everything he needs to score goals on his bench; however, ESPN FC's Stevie Nicol disagrees.

David De Gea, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia were notable absentees from the Manchester United squad as Louis van Gaal named an 18-man party for their Champions League qualifier against Club Brugge.

United won the first leg 3-1 and will go into Wednesday's return fixture again without De Gea, who has not featured in any of their first four games this season.

Van Gaal has omitted the Real Madrid target because of concerns about his state of mind and has said that the goalkeeper will...

Club Brugge boss says 'it's always difficult' to mark Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini played under Michel Preud'homme at Standard Liege.

Club Brugge coach Michel Preud'homme says he was aware of the threat Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini would pose long before their Champions League game kicked off on Wednesday.

The midfielder was a key player in Preud'homme's Standard Liege team that won the Belgian league in 2008 and Fellaini came back to haunt him at Old Trafford by scoring a stoppage-time goal that gave United a comfortable 3-1 win.
