Man United learn possible Champions League playoff opponents

ESPN FC's Paul Mariner and Alexis Nunes discuss Manchester United's possible Champions League playoff opponents and review the side's they'll want to avoid.

Manchester United could face a tricky Champions League playoff against the likes of CSKA Moscow, Lazio, Monaco or Sporting Lisbon in August.

The 15 teams which take part in the non-champions half of the qualifying draw are now known after Lazio held off the challenge of Rafael Benitez led Napoli to hold on to third place in Serie A.

Manchester United, ranked 10th by UEFA, will be the top seeded club in the final qualifying round -- joined by Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk and Ajax....

Club Brugge's record 11-match unbeaten run in the Europa League came to an end in their quarterfinal second leg, as Dnipro sealed their progress with a 1-0 win at the NSK Olimpiyskyi stadium.

Dnipro had managed a goalless draw in the away leg, and it was down to Brugge's Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to keep the hosts at bay on Thursday for almost the entire game.

However, Brugge's defence was breached deep into the second half courtesy of substitute Yevgen Shakhov, with the narrow win enough...

Club Brugge are back after decade in the doldrums

In the beginning of March, all of Belgium wept with Lorenzo "Lorre" Schoonbaert. The terminally ill 41-year-old Club Brugge fan delayed his euthanasia in order to visit the Jan Breydel Stadium for the last time. He was honoured to kick off the game against Mechelen, watched the 3-0 win from the VIP stand, and died on the next day.

Tragically, Lorre didn't live to witness one of the greatest moments in Brugge's history that took place just three weeks later. On March 22, Club Brugge arrived in...

Club Brugge were held to a goalless draw against Dnipro in their Europa League quarterfinal first leg encounter at the Jan Breydel Stadion on Thursday.

The closest either side came to scoring was in the 27th minute when Brugge striker Jose Izquierdo found himself through on goal, but Dnipro goalkeeper Denys Boyko kept his composure to save brilliantly when Izquierdo seems odds-on to score.

Yevhen Konoplyanka could have earned Dnipro victory at the death but his angled strike was acrobatically saved...

Club Brugge progressed to the quarterfinals of the Europa League with a 5-2 aggregate win over Besiktas.

The match was perhaps not as one-sided as the scoreline suggests, with two late goals from Boli Bolingoli Mbombo required to make sure of their progress.

Tom de Sutter had earlier taken advantage of some lax goalkeeping to add to his goal from the 2-1 win in the first leg, meaning Ramon's fine strike for the Turkish side was merely a memory by the time the final whistle blew -- with Besiktas down...
