Corinne Diacre, Clermont's female coach, gets 2-year contract extension

Clermont Foot have appointed Corinne Diacre to replace Helena Costa as head coach.

Clermont manager Corinne Diacre, the first woman to manage a professional French men's team in competitive action, has been rewarded with a contract extension until 2018 at the Ligue 2 side.

Diacre, 41, made history when she took charge at the club in June 2014 after the brief reign and abrupt departure of her predecessor, Helena Costa.

A former captain of France's women's team who was capped 121 times, Diacre guided the men of Clermont to a 12th-placed finish in France's second tier last season.

However, Clermont president Claude Michy retorted by saying: "She's a woman so it could be down to any number of things ..."

Costa: Clermont 'lacked respect'

Helena Costa lasted just over a month in the Clermont manager.

Helena Costa has explained "a total lack of respect" from Clermont led her to quit.

Costa, 36, was the focal point of the world's football media when she was appointed by Ligue 2 side Clermont in early May, succeeding Regis Brouard to become the first woman to coach a professional men's football club in France.

However, she quit on Monday on the eve of pre-season training, and though she failed to detail her reasons in a press conference on Tuesday morning, she published a press release in A Bola...
