Ukrainian, Russian clubs kept apart

UEFA has decided to keep Ukrainian and Russian clubs from playing each other "until further notice" because of the continuing unrest between the neighboring countries.

The ruling was made "in light of the current political situation" after the Russian and Ukrainian associations "expressed concerns about safety and security."

The UEFA emergency panel ruling means Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg and Ukrainian club Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk cannot be paired against each other in the Champions League third...

Lacazette fires Lyon through

Alexandre Lacazette's 80th-minute winner ensured Lyon advanced to the last 16 of the Europa League after a battling 1-0 aggregate win over 10-man Chornomorets.

Lacazette hammered into the top corner after a superb run to score the first goal of the tie in nearly 170 minutes of action.

The French giants were given the upper hand when Chornomorets defender Evgeniy Zubeyko was dismissed four minutes before the goal, and the visitors can perhaps count themselves unlucky after playing their part in an intriguing...

Salzburg reached their only major European final 20 years ago, when in the days of two-legged UEFA Cup finals they were beaten 1-0 both home and away by Inter Milan. They were also known as Austria...

Lyon unbeaten run remains intact

Lyon remain unbeaten in the Europa League this season after a goalless draw in the first-leg of their last-32 clash against Chornomorets.

In a game of very few chances, Steed Malbranque and Gael Danic came closest to opening the scoring.

Chornomorets were impressive, however, and could even have snatched a precious win when Kirill Kovalchuk narrowly missed the target from 20 yards.

Remi Garde's Lyon team went into the game with eight wins from their last 10 matches and will be frustrated not to have...

Spurs will square up against one of their former coaches when they travel to Ukraine for their last-32 match with Juande Ramos' side, who are fourth in the country's top flight.
