Erick Torres signs 5-year deal with MLS, will join Houston Dynamo

Mexican international Erick "El Cubo" Torres will remain in Major League Soccer, joining the Houston Dynamo as a designated player on a five-year deal, the club announced on Tuesday night.

Torres, 21, starred for Chivas USA last season while on loan from the now-defunct MLS team's Mexican parent club, Chivas Guadalajara. After that loan expired this month, MLS signed Torres to a permanent deal and offered his contract to all 20 clubs.

FC Dallas nab goalkeeper Dan Kennedy in MLS' Chivas USA dispersal draft

Former Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy will join FC Dallas next season.

FC Dallas selected goalkeeper Dan Kennedy on Wednesday with the top pick of Major League Soccer's dispersal draft, which allowed teams to select players from defunct side Chivas USA.

Seven former Chivas players were selected in the draft, while 13 teams decided to pass.

Clubs acquiring players through the dispersal draft take on the players' existing contract with Chivas USA for 2015 and exercise all options. Those Chivas players not selected will be available in the league's re-entry draft or waiver...

MLS unveils new Los Angeles franchise set to begin play in 2017

Major League Soccer on Thursday announced its approval of a new team to be based in Los Angeles.

The new franchise, known for now as Los Angeles Football Club, follows the closing of struggling L.A. team Chivas USA, which MLS officially shut down on Monday.

MLS plans for LAFC to debut in 2017 in a new soccer stadium in the Los Angeles area that will be built specifically for the team.

Chivas USA took all three points over the San Jose Earthquakes in their last match of the season, the club's final match ever in Major League Soccer as they will be replaced by a new club in 2017.

Troubled Major League Soccer club Chivas USA will cease operations, effective immediately, and will be replaced by a club that will begin play in the league in 2017, MLS announced on Monday.
