Erick Torres signs 5-year deal with MLS, will join Houston Dynamo

Mexican international Erick "El Cubo" Torres will remain in Major League Soccer, joining the Houston Dynamo as a designated player on a five-year deal, the club announced on Tuesday night.

Torres, 21, starred for Chivas USA last season while on loan from the now-defunct MLS team's Mexican parent club, Chivas Guadalajara. After that loan expired this month, MLS signed Torres to a permanent deal and offered his contract to all 20 clubs.

The Dynamo were the only team to accept the terms of the...

FC Dallas nab goalkeeper Dan Kennedy in MLS' Chivas USA dispersal draft

Former Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy will join FC Dallas next season.

FC Dallas selected goalkeeper Dan Kennedy on Wednesday with the top pick of Major League Soccer's dispersal draft, which allowed teams to select players from defunct side Chivas USA.

Seven former Chivas players were selected in the draft, while 13 teams decided to pass.

Clubs acquiring players through the dispersal draft take on the players' existing contract with Chivas USA for 2015 and exercise all options. Those Chivas players not selected will be available in the league's re-entry draft or waiver...

MLS unveils new Los Angeles franchise set to begin play in 2017

ESPN FC's Taylor Twellman and Alexi Lalas discuss the announcement of Major League Soccer's latest club, Los Angeles FC, and what impact their powerful owners might have within the MLS.

Major League Soccer on Thursday announced its approval of a new team to be based in Los Angeles.

MLS plans for LAFC to debut in 2017 in a new soccer stadium in the Los Angeles area that will be built specifically for the team.

"We are thrilled to welcome Henry Nguyen, Peter Guber, Tom Penn and their owner partners to Major League Soccer,"...

Despite Chivas USA's misstep, Garber still bullish on MLS in L.A.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber, center left, still defends Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara, center right, for wanting a second team in Los Angeles.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber, center left, still defends Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara, center right, for wanting a second team in Los Angeles.

It doesn't take much to jog the memory of MLS commissioner Don Garber and take him back to 2004, when MLS was embarking on its first expansion in seven years.

Dave Checketts was set to bring a team to Salt Lake City, but what really caught Garber's eye was the proposal of Chivas Guadalajara owner Jorge Vergara, along with brothers Antonio and Lorenzo Cue, to bring a second team to Los Angeles.

"We were so excited about it," Garber said by telephone. "Vergara and Antonio Cue had this unique and...
