Ex-Italy boss Gian Piero Ventura quits Chievo after just four matches

Chievo Verona blew a 2-1 lead against Bologna, but a draw was enough to erase their Serie A points deduction and get back to zero for the season.

Former Italy coach Gian Piero Ventura has tendered his resignation as coach of Chievo after picking up his first point at the fourth attempt on Sunday.

Just minutes after the Flying Donkeys' 2-2 draw with Bologna, Ventura entered into the dressing room and told his players he would be stepping down, according to the club's sporting director Giancarlo Romairone.

"We are still trying to make head and tail of it," Romairone said at the post-match news conference, which he attended instead of Ventura....

Genoa and Chievo have made the first coaching changes of this season's Serie A, with Davide Ballardini and Lorenzo d'Anna respectively being dismissed.

Genoa made the decision despite the club performing relatively well and sitting 11th in the Serie A table. But, president Enrico Preziosi acted two days after a 3-1 loss at home to Parma, citing simply that Ballardini -- who he had hired for a third time -- is a terrible coach.

Chievo deducted three points for falsifying player sale accounts

Chievo have been docked three points and fined €200,000 after being found guilty of incorrect accountancy practices in the relation to the transfer of players to and from Cesena over the past year, with their president Luca Campedelli banned for three months.
