Chievo scored three second-half goals to clinch a come-from-behind 3-1 victory at Empoli in their Serie A opener.

Italian midfielder Riccardo Saponara put Empoli ahead in the seventh minute with a left-footed shot from 12 yards to beat goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri.

Chievo hit back with substitute Riccardo Meggiorini equalising in the 55th minute when he headed Valter Birsa's cross past Empoli goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.

AC Milan advance in Coppa Italia; Chievo stunned in extra time

Luiz Adriano scored to help AC Milan advance to the fourth round of the Coppa Italia.

Luiz Adriano opened his goal scoring account for AC Milan in a 2-0 win over Perugia in the Coppa Italia on Monday.

Keisuke Honda also scored as Sinisa Mihajlovic won his first competitive game in charge of the Rossoneri.

Josip Ilicic put the Viola on their way with their opening goal in the 12th minute.

After Chievo's Sergio Pellissier hit a left-footed shot off the post in the 61st minute, the visitors lost midfielder Isaac Cofie to a second yellow card.

Chievo remained unbeaten at home since February 2 after finding a late equaliser to draw 1-1 against Atalanta on Sunday afternoon.

The Flying Donkeys trailed 1-0 after Atalanta striker Alejandro Gomez's early second-half strike.

Atalanta looked to be heading for their first away win since January 18, only for Chievo substitute Sergio Pellissier to pull the hosts level two minutes from time.

The result in Verona lifted Chievo into 14th place in Serie A.

Pressure was lifted from Atalanta last weekend when...

Torino retain an outside chance of sneaking into the Europa League after dominating Chievo to win 2-0 on Sunday.

The Granata flattered to deceive for 51 minutes, but once Maxi Lopez had notched an overdue opener he was quickly able to convert a brace against a Chievo side who offered very little at the Stadio Olimpico.

With two games of the Serie A season remaining, Torino are four points behind sixth-placed Fiorentina.

Chievo were under siege from the first minute of the first half to the last but...
