A local company has pulled its sponsorship of Chesterfield "in light of recent events."

The decision comes at the end of a week which saw the League One club agree a 12-month contract with striker Ched Evans, although the company refused to confirm if that was the reason behind the decision.

The Welsh striker, 27, signed an initial one-year deal with the option of another 12 months and he will officially become a Spireite on July 1, a little over three months before he will go on trial for rape.

The Bantams, who recorded a seventh successive home win, will meet fourth-placed Millwall in the play-offs after they won at Gillingham.

Wales Under-21 international Lee Evans put the Bantams in front after seven minutes with a superb 25-yard left foot volley after Tony McMahon's shot had been deflected into his path.

Chris Herd
Chris Herd made 24 appearances for Chesterfield during his short stint at the club.

Midfielder Chris Herd has left Chesterfield to join Australian A-League side Perth Glory.

The former Aston Villa trainee was signed by previous Spireites boss Dean Saunders in September on a contract until January, with his stay at the Proact Stadium then extended for the remainder of the campaign.

But with Chesterfield having just one League One match left to play, and with their survival now assured, Australian Herd has been allowed to leave and return to his homeland to realise an ambition to...

Chesterfield confirmed their place in League One next season with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Bury at the Proact Stadium.

A first-half penalty from Jay O'Shea and a deflected Lee Novak strike put Chesterfield in charge before Dan Gardner sealed the win they needed to avoid relegation.

O'Shea had gone close with a 25-yard free-kick before he beat Chris Neal from the spot in the 29th minute after Cian Bolger had blocked Gary Liddle's run into the box.

Neal pushed away a shot from O'Shea in the 40th minute...
