Chapecoense's recovery from a plane crash that killed 19 players in 2016 and Barcelona's comeback win against Paris Saint-Germain are among the nominees for this year's Laureus World Sports Awards.

Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo have also been nominated for prizes, with the winners revealed at an event in Monaco on Feb. 27.

Chapecoense and Barca have both been nominated in the World Comeback of the Year category.

Chapecoense clinch Copa Libertadores spot year after fatal crash

SAO PAULO -- Brazil's Chapecoense have secured a spot in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores tournament one year after a plane crash killed 19 of their players.

The southern Brazilian side beat Coritiba 2-1 on Sunday with a last-minute winner.

As a result, Chapecoense finished eighth in the league and qualified for South America's most prestigious soccer club tournament in 2018.

The plane crash involving Chapecoense killed 71 people.

Chapecoense have sued the insurance company hired by LaMia airline, and several Bolivian government entities over damages caused by the air crash that killed 71 people a year ago in Colombia, the Brazilian club said on Wednesday.

The club announced that it filed suit in the Fourth Civil Court of Chapeco, the city where the team is based, with a "indemnization claim suit in which the sued parties are BISA Seguros (y Reaseguros) and Bolivian government entities."

Torino players will wear special shirts in Saturday's Serie A match against Atalanta to mark the one-year anniversary of the plane crash that killed most of Brazilian club Chapecoense.

Torino, who endured their own air disaster in 1949, said they are "fulfilling a promise" made by club president Urbano Cairo to Chapecoense president De Nes Filho.

The Italian team, who normally play in a maroon kit, saythey will wear "a green jersey like that of Chapecoense."

Neymar has paid tribute to the victims of the Chapecoense disaster on the anniversary of the plane accident that killed most of the team by saying every Brazilian carries them "in his heart."

On Nov. 28, 2016, Chapecoense were travelling to play in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional when the jet carrying players, club officials and journalists went down near the Colombian city of Medellin. Only six people survived while 71 perished.
