Chapecoense plane crash survivors meet Pope Francis at the Vatican

Chapecoense met with Pep Francis and among them were plane crash survivors Jackson Follmann and Alan Ruschel.

Brazilian side Chapecoense met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday.

The club were devastated by an airplane crash in the mountains of Colombia in November, with all but six of the 77 players, officials and journalists on board killed.

Three players survived the crash and two of them, Jackson Follmann and Alan Ruschel, were among those at the Vatican.

Pope Francis gave Chapecoense a special welcome in his remarks and posed for pictures with the team at the end of his weekly general audience.

Chapecoense fall to Japan's Urawa Reds after late penalty decision

Chapecoense complain to the referee after he awarded a late penalty.

Yuki Abe scored a penalty with two minutes left to give J-League side Urawa Reds a 1-0 victory over Brazil's Chapecoense in the Suruga Bank Championship on Tuesday.

Referee Kim Jong Hyeok awarded the spot-kick after judging that Chapecoense captain Grolli took down Zlatan Ljubijankic.

Chapecoense protested the call and Grolli said after the match that he did not foul Ljubijankic.

Roma arrange Chapecoense friendly to aid club's recovery from tragedy

Chapecoense will face Roma in a friendly game during the September international break.

Roma have announced that they will face Brazilian club Chapecoense in a friendly at the Stadio Olimpico on Sept. 1.

The Giallorossi, the Vatican City and the City of Rome all joined forces to arrange the charity game involving the club who were devastated by a tragic air crash almost a year ago which saw almost all of its players killed and coaching staff killed in Colombia.
