Cagliari took full advantage of basement boys Parma's plight by plundering a vital 4-0 victory at the Stadio Sant'Elia.

The bankrupt northerners were relegated last week but Cagliari can still survive if they catch up with 17th-placed Atalanta, who are now only six points better off with four games remaining.

Gianluca Festa's men would have looked doomed had they not won but Albin Ekdal, Diego Farias, Paul-Jose M'Poku and Duje Cop put Parma to the sword by scoring four unanswered goals.

Duje Cop ensured Gianluca Festa's debut on the Cagliari bench went swimmingly with a brace to down Fiorentina 3-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The former Inter Milan and Middlesbrough man has been charged with leading the Sardinians' survival bid and before kick-off they were 10 points shy of safety.

Seventeenth-placed Atalanta are now seven points away thanks to goals in each half from Cop and a last-gasp screamer from Diego Farias, while veteran striker Alberto Gilardino managed a late response...

Zdenek Zeman resigns as coach of Cagliari amid Serie A relegation battle

Zdenek Zeman came back this season, but has chosen to depart once more.

Zdenek Zeman has resigned as coach of Serie A strugglers Cagliari, alleging that his players were not listening to him.

Zeman, 67, was sacked by the Sardinian club last December, but returned after Gianfranco Zola failed to lead them away from danger.

However, the Czech coach has failed to win since returning and some of the club's fans stormed their training ground and attacked the players before a 3-0 defeat to Napoli at the weekend.

That was Cagliari's fourth straight defeat, leaving them without...
