Lee Mansell kept his cool to score the winning penalty as Bristol Rovers sealed an immediate return to the Football League with a 5-3 shootout victory over Grimsby in the Conference playoff final.

Rovers manager Darrell Clarke took the bold move of replacing goalkeeper Will Puddy with Steve Mildenhall at the end of extra time but the former Mariners stopper was not needed as Jon-Paul Pittman blazed his penalty over.

Ten-man Tranmere booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup after Max Power's penalty edged victory over Vanarama Conference side Bristol Rovers.

Power struck in the second half but League Two's Tranmere were made to hold on as striker George Donnelly saw red for kicking out at Tom Parkes.

The first opportunity fell for the home side, with Eliot Richards seeing his long-distance effort curl wide before Janoi Donacien missed a header from 12 yards out in the 21st minute.
