First-half headers from defenders Ben Mee and Michael Keane set Burnley on course for a 2-1 Sky Bet Championship win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The home side were undone by the sort of set-piece goals that infuriate managers, with the opener coming after 34 minutes when Mee climbed above Luke Ayling to powerfully head home a left-wing corner from David Jones.

And when Jones delivered another flag kick from the right six minutes later, it was again a Burnley player who showed most determination...

Joe Bryan grabbed the only goal as Bristol City claimed their first victory since returning to the Sky Bet Championship at Middlesbrough.

Last year's League One champions entered the clash on the back of a frustrating start to life in the second tier, collecting just a single point from the first three games.

Yet there was no sign of panic early on at the Riverside as they took the lead through Bryan's well-taken goal which earned them a 1-0 win.

Indeed, it took two fine first-half saves from Dimi Konstantopoulos...

Bristol City staged a dramatic fightback to claim their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw against Leeds at Ashton Gate.

Leeds had seemed on course for their first win of the campaign after taking a two-goal lead inside 52 minutes through Mirco Antenucci and Chris Wood.

But City equalised through substitute Kieran Agard in the 89th-minute before Aden Flint capped a grandstand finish when he bundled home deep into stoppage time after goalkeeper Marco Silvestri had failed to hold Marlon Pack's header.

Dwight Gayle had five goals in 25 Premier League matches with Crystal Palace in 2014-15.
Dwight Gayle appears eager to remain in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle has turned down a move to Bristol City, boss Steve Cotterill has confirmed.

Bristol City had a £6 million bid accepted by Palace and were hoping to persuade him to drop down into the Championship, but sources told ESPN FC last week that the player had turned down the move

Speaking after his side's 4-2 home defeat to Brentford, Cotterill said: "Dwight Gayle won't be coming here. He's made his decision.

"We've got to move on [in the transfer market]....

Luke Freeman was sent off as Bristol City's poor start to the Championship campaign continued with a 4-2 home defeat by Brentford.

Freeman was dismissed on 35 minutes for a high kick on Brentford defender Harlee Dean. The challenge looked more awkward than malicious, but referee Keith Stroud reached for the red card after consulting a linesman.

Furious City boss Steve Cotterill made his feelings clear to both officials and Dean was roundly booed by home fans when recovering after lengthy treatment.
