Brest oust Metz on penalties to reach Coupe de France quarterfinals

Brest celebrate after defeating Metz on penalties

Ligue 2 club Brest booked a Coupe de France quarterfinal meeting with Auxerre by overcoming top-flight side Metz in a penalty shootout.

The promotion hopefuls held Ligue 1 strugglers Metz to a goalless draw at Stade Saint-Symphorien and, after 120 minutes of play, spot-kicks were required and the Brittany outfit prevailed 4-3.

Everton's Gueye moves to Brest on loan


Everton midfielder Magaye Gueye has joined Ligue 1 outfit Brest on loan for the rest of the season.

Gueye, 22, has been given the green light to switch to the French club prior to the close of the transfer window.

Having moved to Goodison Park from Strasbourg in June 2010, Gueye made just six appearances for the Toffees this season.
