Borussia Monchengladbach cautious about UCL playoff rival Young Boys

Pep Guardiola's European debut with Manchester City will see them face off against Romanian side Steaua Bucharest.

German side Borussia Monchengladbach are not taking anything for granted after learning they have drawn Young Boys from Swiss Super League in the Champions League playoff round.

The Bundesliga side were drawn on Friday against Bern-based Young Boys, who finished second last season.

The Foals will play the first leg away at the Stade de Suisse on Aug. 16. The second leg will take place at the Borussia Park on Aug. 23.

Pep Guardiola faces a trip to Romania as Manchester City take on Steaua Bucharest in the final qualifying round of the Champions League.

City could have been handed a much tougher fixture against Serie A side Roma or Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco, but will be content with the draw and with the second leg being at the Etihad.

Yann Sommer is expected to be sidelined for both legs of Gladbach's Champions League playoff.

Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer is set to miss the Champions League playoffs after suffering a twisted ankle.

Gladbach may have to rely on 28-year-old backup keeper Tobias Sippel, who has made only 38 appearances in the German top flight, in the two-legged clash as a result.

Borussia Monchengladbach have admitted that it will be difficult to tie Mahmoud Dahoud to a new contract.

Raffael agrees one-year Borussia Monchengladbach contract extension

Brazil forward Raffael was due to leave Borussia Monchengladbach next year.

Borussia Monchengladbach forward Raffael has agree a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2019.

Raffael, 31, has scored 44 goals in 116 appearances for Gladbach since joining the club from Dynamo Kiev in 2013, but was approaching the final year of his contract.

However, the club confirmed on Monday that the player has extended his Bundesliga stay by another year.

"Borussia can continue to plan with their top performers on board," a club statement read.
