Zlatan Ibrahimovic hat trick fires Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon lose again

Ibra slotted home three goals and Edinson Cavani scored another as PSG rolled to a 5-0 win vs. St. Etienne.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's hat-trick inspired Paris Saint-Germain as they put their faltering start to the Ligue 1 season behind them with a commanding 5-0 thrashing of St Etienne.

Stephane Ruffier's inexplicable own goal got the Parisians' evening off to a perfect start when the goalkeeper allowed Jeremy Clement's pass back beyond him. Ibrahimovic added a second before the break.

The Sweden captain helped himself to a second shortly after the hour mark and Edinson Cavani added a fourth before the Sw...

Bordeaux's impressive 100 per cent start to the season came to an end on Sunday with a 1-1 draw against Bastia at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

Junior Tallo's first-half strike, his second of the campaign, seemed like giving Claude Makelele's men their second consecutive 1-0 Ligue 1 win before Diego Rolan broke Corsican hearts with little over 10 minutes left.

The hosts began the brighter but almost gifted Bastia an opening goal when Cedric Carrasso cleared straight to Christopher Maboulou, who could o...

Sagnol shines bright for Bordeaux

Willy Sagnol has started well in Ligue 1, with three straight wins to open the season.

It's funny how destiny sometimes works out.

Just think of Bordeaux, historically one of the top clubs in French football. In March, then-manager Francis Gillot told chairman Jean-Louis Triaud that he was leaving at the end of the season, one year before the end of his contract. In the quest to bring in a new man, Bordeaux decided to go for Zinedine Zidane. The France legend played for the club for four years (1992-96) and was keen to leave his role as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant at Real Madrid ...

Willy Sagnol's Bordeaux top the fledgling Ligue 1 table after beating Nice 3-1 to register a third straight victory.

The former France defender appears to be adapting to top-flight management seamlessly and with nine points collected from the first nine on offer, Sagnol and his free-scoring Girondins are setting the early pace in France.

They had to come from behind to win at the Allianz Riviera, though, given the fact Alexys Bosetti fired Nice ahead with a sumptuous shot in the 12th minute.

Tiago Ilori joins Bordeaux on loan

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says his summer signings have impressed him so far.

Liverpool centre-back Tiago Ilori has moved to French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux on loan for the 2014-15 season.

Ilori was unable to displace Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho or Daniel Agger from the starting XI last season and was loaned to Granada in January. He now has Dejan Lovren to compete with as well, so has opted to spend the whole season playing first-team football elsewhere.
