Chievo and Bologna concluded their respective Serie A campaigns by grinding out a disappointing goalless draw in torrential rain in Verona.

The mid-table sides had already achieved their mutual aims of staying up and looked complacent across 90 minutes at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.

Bologna's on-loan Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini whipped the ball just wide with a powerful drive after 14 minutes and his team-mate Matteo Brighi attempted an acrobatic scissor-kick volley as time ticked...

Carlos Bacca and AC Milan defeated Bologna on Saturday.

Carlos Bacca's first-half penalty proved enough to lift AC Milan back into sixth place following a scrappy 1-0 victory over 10-man Bologna.

The Rossoneri were last week dislodged from the final likely Europa League berth by surprise package Sassuolo, and Cristian Brocchi's men needed to react strongly at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

Their task was made easier by Amadou Diawara, the Bologna player who was sent off early in the game, and Angelo da Costa's foul on Luiz Adriano allowed Bacca to convert...

Bologna boss urges Emanuele Giaccherini to sort Sunderland sale

Emanuele Giaccherini has a year left to play out of his Sunderland contract.

Bologna's club manager Marco Di Vaio hopes that Emanuele Giaccherini will fight his own corner to earn a stay at the Serie A club next season by convincing Sunderland to let him leave.

Giaccherini has been a regular under Roberto Donadoni since joining from the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal. The 30-year-old has scored seven times in 26 league appearances and is set to be one of the first names on Antonio Conte's Italy squad for the European Championship this summer.

Once that is complete,...

Riccardo Saponara and Empoli were frustrated by Bologna in a mid-table goalless draw at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

The Tuscan side were dominant and might have scored through Piotr Zielinski, the Polish playmaker fluffing a one-on-one with Antonio Mirante.

Saponara missed two gilt-edged chances after the break and, in the 64th minute, demanded a penalty when he was fouled in the Bologna box as he played the ball forward for Daniele Croce to convert from an offside position.

Bologna pulled out of a nosedive towards the Serie A relegation zone by beating Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

A nine-game winless run had seen Roberto Donadoni's men tumble down the table and into 16th place but goals from Emanuele Giaccherini and Sergio Floccari saw Bologna reach the security of 40 points for the season.

On-loan Sunderland winger Giaccherini opened the scoring after 12 minutes as he steered Franco Brienza's clever through-ball beyond Eugenio Lamanna.

In the 63rd minute Bologna...
