Blackpool match abandoned after protests will not be replayed

Paul Lambert says Championship strugglers Blackpool will be a dangerous side for his Aston Villa team to face in the FA Cup third round.
The Blackpool-Huddersfield match that was abandoned due to fan protest will not be replayed.

Blackpool's abandoned match against Huddersfield at Bloomfield Road last Saturday will not be replayed, the Football League has announced.

The Seasiders' final fixture of the season was halted 48 minutes in when supporters poured on to the pitch in protest at the Tangerines' chairman Karl Oyston and, after staging a sit-in demonstration in the centre circle for over an hour, referee Mick Russell eventually called the fixture off.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, the Football League said:...

Angry Blackpool fans invaded the pitch in protest against the club's Oyston family owners which caused their final Championship game of the season against Huddersfield to be abandoned after 48 minutes.

The already-relegated Seasiders have suffered a miserable campaign and went into the game hoping to avoid setting a new record low points total.

Stockport hold the dubious honour for fewest second-tier points since the 1988 expansion to 24 sides, with 26 in 2002, but matters off the pitch dominated proceedings...

Bottom-of-the-table Blackpool will bid to avoid a historically low points total when Huddersfield visit Bloomfield Road.

The Seasiders have accrued just 25 points thus far in a miserable campaign and need one more to emulate the second tier's worst ever haul of 26, registered by Stockport in 2001/02, since the 1988 expansion to 24 teams.

Manager Lee Clark is already without Tom Aldred (hamstring), Joe Lewis (ankle), Mark Waddington (foot) and Grant Hall (ankle), while his attacking options are stretched...

Blackpool fans angry after Stan Mortensen statue removal

Stan Mortensen scored a hat trick in the 1953 FA Cup final.

Blackpool supporters have reacted angrily to the removal of the Stan Mortensen statue outside Bloomfield Road, which fans had planned to visit as part of their protests against the club's owners this weekend.

Blackpool, already relegated from the Championship, round off the season by hosting Huddersfield this weekend and disgruntled supporters are staging a prematch march against chairman Karl Oyston.

Fans' groups Blackpool Supporters Trust and the Tangerine Knights had dubbed May 2 "Judgement Day"...
