Crisis continues for reigning PSL champions Bidvest Wits

The crisis continued unabated at South African champions Bidvest Wits as they lost for a third time this season and remain winless in their first five games of the new league season.

A 3-0 loss at AmaZulu, who had only won once before Wednesday night's game in Durban, means Wits extended the worst start by any defending champion to a Premier Soccer League season.

Instead it is unfancied Golden Arrows and Baroka FC, led by eccentric coach Kgoloko Thobejane, who are in top place, with Orlando Pirates...

Big deals mark end of South African transfer window

The transfer window in South Africa's Premier Soccer League slammed shut with a bang on Thursday after a number of high-profile deals on deadline day.

One of these saw a star name depart the league as reigning PSL Player of the Season Lebogang Manyama joined Turkish side Konyaspor from Cape Town City for a fee believed to be €800 000. That transfer is subject to a medical, but that is unlikely to be an issue and will be conducted when Manyama has completed his national team duty with Bafana...

Intriguing days ahead as PSL window prepares to slam shut

It promises to be an interesting final few days of the South African transfer window, with some of the top names in the Premier Soccer League angling for a move before 31 August, but many may miss out.

Two of the most high-profile wantaways are reigning PSL Player of the Season Lebogang Manyama at Cape Town City, and SuperSport United's New Zealand international forward Jeremy Brockie. Both are on the wanted list of Mamelodi Sundowns, among others, who certainly could afford them if pushed, but...

Patosi hands Cape Town City the advantage

Benni McCarthy continued his brilliant start to life as a manager as Cape Town City beat Bidvest Wits 1-0 in the first leg of the MTN8 Cup semifinals.

Ayanda Patosi was the hero on the day, scoring a minute before the break for his second in a week after netting in the 3-0 win against Platinum Stars.

Wits were not short on chances, with Thabang Monare coming closest just before City found the net, but the hosts were well worth the victory.

The result continued McCarthy's remarkable start as a manager...

Bidvest Wits land Egypt international striker

South African Premier Soccer League side Bidvest Wits have announced the signing of Egyptian international forward Amr Gamal from Al Ahly.

Gamal will add to the striking options of coach Gavin Hunt that have proven hit-and-miss, despite the side winning the league title in the 2016/17 season.

"Egyptian striker Amr Gamal has joined us on a one-year loan from Al Ahly. Welcome to the family," Wits tweeted on Tuesday.

Gamal becomes the first Egyptian player to feature in the South African domestic league...
