Jubilant Bidvest Wits end long wait for first PSL title

Bidvest Wits claimed a first South African league title in the club's 96-year history on Wednesday as they defeated Polokwane City 2-0 in a PSL clash at the BidVest Stadium.

That result, coupled with a surprise 2-2 draw for African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, leaves Wits with an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the table with just a single round of matches to play.

The title is as a fourth for coach Gavin Hunt after he grabbed three championships in a row at former side SuperSport United...

BidVest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has warned his side not to get ahead of themselves as they close in on a first South African league title in the club's 96-year history.

Wits lead title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns by three points and are a further two in front of third-placed Cape Town City, the only other side with a mathematical chance of catching them in the race for the championship.

Bidvest Wits have opened up a three-point lead at the top of the Absa Premiership standings following a 1-0 win against faltering Orlando Pirates on Thursday evening.
