Leverkusen boss backs 'sensational' Chicharito ahead of Atletico clash

Atletico Madrid are aiming to get a result on the road, while Bayer Leverkusen look to stay unbeaten at home in the UCL.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt has hailed Chicharito Hernandez's "sensational form" since the winter break and backed the Mexico international to begin scoring in the Champions League once again.

Bayer face Atletico Madrid in a Champions League round-of-16 first-leg tie on Tuesday with Hernandez in a purple patch that has seen him find the net five times over his past three Bundesliga matches.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone has suggested that goalkeeper Jan Oblak will make his return in Tuesday's Champions League round of 16 first leg at Bayer Leverkusen.

Slovenia international Oblak returned to training with the Atletico squad late last week after two months following a shoulder operation, with backup Miguel Angel Moya deputising for the last 15 games in all competitions.

Karim Bellarabi scored the landmark goal for Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen's Karim Bellarabi scored the 50,000th goal in Bundesliga history on Friday.

Bellarabi put his side ahead at Augsburg in the 23rd minute with his first goal of the season to secure the milestone.

It took 53 years for the German league to reach that mark, and includes 3,391 penalties and 984 own goals.
