Monaco get back on track to beat Guingamp, restore lead atop Ligue 1

Monaco gain some separation between themselves and Nice at the top of the table with an away win at Guingamp.

Ligue 1 leaders Monaco returned to winning ways with a 2-1 triumph over Guingamp to restore their three-point lead.

Leonardo Jardim's side were held to a draw by Bastia last weekend and then lost 5-3 to Manchester City in a remarkable Champions League clash in midweek.

There was rather less drama at the Stade de Roudourou, although Etienne Didot did make it a nervous finish for Monaco with a 90th-minute goal.

Kamil Glik had given the visitors the lead in the 24th minute and an 86th-minute penalty...

Mario Balotelli gets suspended ban for insulting ref; Bastia punished for abuse

Julien Laurens says Mario Balotelli not only needs to rebound from his red card, but needs to step up his overall effort.
FC's Gab Marcotti reviews Mario Balotelli's sending off against Lorient, and why his form has dropped so drastically.
Mario Balotelli got his third red card for Nice, for what seems to be dissent after the ref ignored his claims for a foul.

Nice's Mario Balotelli was handed a suspended ban on Thursday for insulting a referee, while Bastia were also punished for their fans' racist abuse aimed at the striker last month.

Balotelli received his third red card of the season last week after insulting Tony Chapron in English, the referee said.

The forward will be suspended for Nice's Ligue 1 encounter with Montpellier on Friday, and the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) said he will receive a ban for an additional game for any further...

Ligue 1 leaders Monaco had to fight back to salvage a draw in Corsica against relegation-threatened Bastia.
Ian Darke suggests Manchester City could have trouble with Monaco's attack in the Champions League.

Perhaps with one eye on the Champions League, Ligue 1 leaders Monaco dropped points in the title race after drawing 1-1 away to struggling Bastia.

Monaco needed a second-half header from Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva, after Guinean forward Sadio Diallo gave the home side the lead with a first-half goal validated by goal line technology.

Although the draw moved Monaco four points clear, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain can trim the lead to one by beating Toulouse at home on Sunday.

Goalline technology fails during Toulouse vs. Bastia Ligue 1 game

Toulouse players celebrate following the Ligue 1 victory against Bastia.
Toulouse celebrate after beating nine-man Bastia 4-1 in Ligue 1.

Questions over the reliability of goalline technology are being raised in France after an apparent failure in the system in a Ligue 1 game on Saturday.

The top-flight encounter between Toulouse and Bastia was goalless when, after 17 minutes, Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont made a reflex save on his goalline from the visitors' Prince Oniangue.

Though the ball did not appear to have crossed the line, Bastia hoped to confirm that with the goalline technology images. But none were able to be shown...
