Alfie Mawson completes move to Swansea from Barnsley

Alfie Mawson, right, scored twice in the four league games he played for Barnsley this season.

Swansea have completed their move for Barnsley defender Alfie Mawson.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract after moving from South Yorkshire for an undisclosed fee. The two clubs reached an agreement on Friday but the deal had remained subject to personal terms being finalised.

After joining from Brentford last season, Mawson played 58 times for Barnsley, helping them win both the Football League Trophy and League One play-off final.

He began his career with Reading before joining Brentford...

Barnsley claimed South Yorkshire bragging rights as they embarrassed Rotherham 4-0 at Oakwell to continue their 100 per cent home start to the Sky Bet Championship season.

The Reds, who had beaten Derby and QPR in their first two games on home soil, had no trouble against the struggling Millers, with goals in the space of three second-half minutes from Marc Roberts and Adam Hammill doing the business before late Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Kent efforts made it a memorable afternoon.

The win was enough to...

Alfie Mawson set to move to Swansea after fee agreed with Barnsley

Francesco Guidolin insists the starting XI places at Swansea are far from a guarantee to any player.
Alfie Mawson, right, is set to complete a move to Swansea.

Swansea have agreed an undisclosed fee with Barnsley for their central defender Alfie Mawson.

Hillingdon-born Mawson joined Barnsley from Brentford in June 2015 after the player had loan spells at Luton, Welling and Wycombe.

Mawson has made 64 appearances and last season was a part of the Barnsley side which won the Sky Bet League One play-offs and lifted the Football League trophy at Wembley.

"The move is subject to the 22-year-old agreeing personal terms at the Liberty," said a statement on the...

Jonathan Hogg scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Huddersfield continued their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign with a 2-1 victory over Barnsley.

Hogg came off the bench to smash home the winner in the second minute of added time.

The midfielder, who signed a contract extension at the start of the month, capped a thrilling Yorkshire derby which put Town top of the Championship.

Town went ahead in the first half through left-back Chris Lowe but Alfie Mawson headed home just after the...

Josh Scowen crashed home a 90th-minute winner as Barnsley came from behind to beat QPR 3-2 and end the visitors' winning run in the Sky Bet Championship.

Marley Watkins gave the Reds an early lead, only for QPR to sneak ahead after the break via way of two penalties, converted by Tjaronn Chery and Sebastian Polter.

A trademark Conor Hourihane free-kick drew Barnsley level and then Scowen scored the winner, with QPR's misery completed by Grant Hall seeing red deep into injury-time.
