Ayr defender Gerry McLauchlan helped knock former club Brechin out of the Scottish League Cup at the first hurdle following a 2-0 victory at Somerset Park.

The summer signing from the visitors opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he struck a low shot from 12 yards.

Alan Trouten, another capture from Brechin, fired wide and Michael Donald also failed to hit the target as Ayr enjoyed the better of the first half.

Paddy Boyle doubled their lead in the 64th minute, firing into the top corner as Brechin...

Ten-man Forfar will go into the play-offs after their Scottish League One title hopes were extinguished when they slipped to a 3-1 loss against Ayr.

The Loons needed Morton to drop points and turn around a deficit in goal difference to finish at the summit, but the Ton's win, coupled with their loss, saw them drop to third in the final standings.

Things had started perfectly for the hosts and Forfar were top of the table after seven minutes when Dale Hilson broke the deadlock with a penalty he had...

Ayr boosted their survival hopes with a 4-0 win over already-relegated Stirling.

Nicky Devlin put them ahead after just six minutes when he headed in Adam Blakeman's cross for his second goal of the season.

Devlin returned the favour a quarter of an hour later when he crossed for Blakeman to nod in the second.

Stirling's afternoon got worse in the 72nd minute when Lee Hamilton was sent off for handling in the area, with Jon-Paul McGovern burying the penalty.

And Blakeman wrapped up the scoring by slotting...

Bob McHugh scored two late goals as Airdrie continued their push for the top four with a 2-0 win over Ayr.

The home side came into this clash looking to bounce back from last weekend's loss at Forfar and they struggled to create any real chances during the first half.

Ross Docherty headed wide just after the break and then Jordan Morton was denied by a parry from Ayr goalkeeper David Hutton.

And just when it looked like the game would end goalless McHugh found the bottom corner from the centre of the...

Ayr blew a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 at home to Peterhead in Scottish League One.

Alan Forrest opened the scoring for the hosts in the 18th minute when he tucked in Adam Blakeman's pass.

Three minutes later Jordan Preston made it 2-0 after being played in by Nicky Devlin.

But Andrew Rodgers pulled one back three minutes before the break when he headed in Steven Noble's cross.

Jordan Brown nodded in another Noble delivery in the 53rd minute to equalise.

Brown slammed in the third just before the hour...
