Tottenham crash out of Europa League as Belgian clubs have perfect day

Spurs crash out of the round of 32 after conceding twice at home and going down to ten men after Dele Alli was sent off.

Ten-man Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the Europa League in the round of 32 after losing 3-2 on aggregate following Thursday's 2-2 second-leg draw against Belgian club Gent at Wembley.

Harry Kane's own goal and Dele Alli's first-half red card were too much to overcome as Mauricio Pochettino's men failed to reach the quarterfinals of the competition for a fourth consecutive campaign.

However Christian Eriksen gave Tottenham early hope in the 10th minute, levelling the tie with a calm finish...

Zlatan Ibrahimovic hat trick carries Man United; Tottenham lose first leg

Behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic's hat trick, Man United took a commanding lead in their UEL round of 32 tie against St Etienne.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's hat trick gave Manchester United a 3-0 win against St Etienne in a Europa League round of 32 first-leg clash at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in unusual circumstances after 15 minutes when his free kick struck the St Etienne wall and deflected towards goal leaving St Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier wrong-footed and stranded before crawling over the line.

He added an important second in the 74th minute as substitute Marcus Rashford squared from...

Barcelona put six goals past Alaves while Real Madrid edge Osasuna

Herculez Gomez and Sebastian Salazar reflect as Barcelona kept the pressure on Real Madrid with a 6-0 drubbing of Alaves.

Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi ran riot as Barcelona fired in four goals in nine second-half minutes on their way to a 6-0 thumping of Alaves on Saturday.

Suarez put Barca ahead on 37 minutes after good work from Aleix Vidal, and Neymar added a second three minutes later, tapping home after some poor defending from the home side.

Alaves remained in the game until Messi added a third just before the hour mark. The floodgates then opened, and Barca added three more in quick succession.

Messi fired home...

Inaki Williams happy at Athletic Bilbao despite Liverpool talk

Ian Rush insists misfiring striker Daniel Sturridge is key to Liverpool's push to qualify for the Champions League.

Reported Liverpool target Inaki Williams has told Sportium that Athletic Bilbao is his "home" amid speculation linking him with a move away from San Mames.

Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are all reported to be interested in signing Williams, who reportedly has a €50 million release clause.

However, the 22-year-old, who has one cap for Spain, said he is happy in La Liga and "does not want a change of scenery" despite all the links with a transfer.

"There are a lot of rumours going...

Yeray Alvarez extends Athletic Bilbao contract until 2022

Luis Enrique is thrilled he got to watch his fringe players shine in Barcelona's victory over Athletic Bilbao.

Yeray Alvarez has signed a three-year contract extension with Athletic Bilbao.

The new deal will keep Yeray, 22, tied to Athletic until June 30, 2022, while his buyout clause has been set at €30 million by the Basque club.

The defender returned to play in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Barcelona in La Liga less than two months after having a tumor removed.

Yeray was forced to spend a spell on the sidelines after the club announced last month that the player had testicular cancer.

"I feel great...
