Athletic Bilbao qualified for the Europa League in emphatic fashion by cruising to a 4-0 win at home to Villarreal.

Aritz Aduriz scored the first and last goal of an emotional evening at San Mames, while veteran defender Andoni Iraola bid farewell to his 12-year career with Athletic by scoring the second goal, and Benat also got on the scoresheet.

Although a total of four teams went into the final game of the season aiming to clinch seventh spot and the European place that comes with it, Athletic started...

Athletic Bilbao produced an incredible late turnaround to beat Elche 3-2 and take a huge step towards qualifying for the Europa League.

The Basques fell behind in the first half to two goals by Elche's player of the season Jonathas and their hopes of catching Malaga in seventh place looked doomed until Ager Aketxe pulled one back in the 80th minute. Mikel San Jose then grabbed an equaliser in the 87th minute, before Inaki Williams hit an injury-time winner.

Elche secured survival a fortnight ago so...

Alberto Lopo scored with the last kick of the match as Deportivo La Coruna snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao which gives them a fighting chance of escaping the bottom three in the Primera Division.

The visitors trailed to Aritz Aduriz's goal for much of the contest but Lopo's header three minutes into stoppage-time sparked wild celebrations among the visiting players.

The draw is not enough to lift Depor out of the bottom three but they are level on points with Eibar, who hold the last...
