Manchester United could now have a strong chance of signing Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in January due to the Serie A club's early elimination from the Champions League, Old Trafford sources have told ESPN FC.

Strootman's season only began last month following his return from a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained in March, and the Giallorossi's failure to progress from their group in Europe has led United to believe they have significant leverage to do an earlier deal for the 24-year-old.

Roma boss Rudi Garcia angered by Serie A touchline ban, set to appeal

Roma coach Rudi Garcia has vowed he will fight to clear his name after being banned for two matches for allegedly attempting to assault a steward.

The Lega Serie A sanctioned the ban based on a statement made by the steward, who claims Garcia tried to hit him at the end of Genoa's 1-0 defeat at home to the Giallorossi.

And that is the sole piece of evidence the Lega have used to justify the suspension, which the Roma boss says he is going to contest.
