Roma secure Champions League qualification, but fans want more

Radja Nainggolan, right, was Roma's best player this season but it was an up and down campaign.

Roma are guaranteed to finish in the top three in Serie A this season, which should be seen as a success in its own right.

It was only two short years ago that the team were languishing outside of the European places entirely yet this season must be seen as a disappointment. Too many transfers last summer were gambles that failed to pay off and one of the club's worst injury situations in memory contributed to a dour second half of the season.

Compounded with a bleak Champions League exit, the side...

Roma's win over Lazio was excellent, but shouldn't have mattered so much

Roma legend Francesco Totti celebrates his team's win over city rivals Lazio.

There's much to say about Roma's 2-1 Derby Della Capitale win over Lazio, but chief amongst them: this one game really should have never meant so much. That it did and that Roma responded in the best of ways, with some very astute tactical choices from Rudi Garcia, is a healthy sign of recovery and can hopefully set the stage for a very successful offseason.

But this was a Roma side that was competing for first not too long ago; to get to the penultimate day with second place on the line is an unfortunate...

Roma's Rudi Garcia and Lazio's Stefano Pioli clash after Rome derby

Rudi Garcia's Roma rebounded from their Bayern bashing to earn a point at Sampdoria.
Rudi Garcia was not impressed with Stefano Pioli's attitude after Monday's game.

Roma coach Rudi Garcia has claimed that Stefano Pioli "does not know how to lose" after the Lazio boss took exception to his remarks in the build-up to Monday's Eternal City derby.

Prior to Roma's 2-1 win over Lazio -- a result which clinched second place in Serie A and a berth in the Champions League next season -- Garcia insinuated that Pioli's side have been influencing referees to get them into the position they are in this season.

"I seem to recall Lazio winning their last game with a goal...

Roma match-winner Yanga-Mbiwa: I'm a part of club history now

Roma centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa celebrates his goal in Roma's 2-1 defeat of Lazio on Monday.

Roma defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is pleased to have left his mark on club history after his 85th-minute goal secured a famous 2-1 victory over arch rivals Lazio on Monday.

The match-winning strike secured second place in Serie A for the giallorossi, guaranteeing a place in the Champions League group stage next season at their crosstown rivals' expense.

"My teammates told me I will remain in Roma history now and I am very happy to know that," said the ex-Newcastle man.

"The important thing is the...

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa's late winner ensured Roma second place in the Serie A standings.

Roma booked their place in the group stage of next season's Champions League with a dramatic 2-1 derby win over Lazio on Monday.

Juan Manuel Iturbe put the nominal visitors ahead at the Stadio Olimpico, but Filip Djordjevic levelled for the hosts, who needed a win to move above their biggest rivals.

A header from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa two minutes later decided the derby in Roma's favour and put them into the Champions League, leaving Lazio with a thrilling final to come next weekend when they head to...
