Roma are back in contention for the top three in Serie A following Sunday's win over Sampdoria.

Roma moved within touching distance of the Champions League places when they scraped past Sampdoria 2-1 on Sunday, but coach Luciano Spalletti is struggling to do away with some old flaws that he no doubt remembers from his first spell in the Italian capital.

After an awkward start, Luciano Spalletti's second reign as Roma boss is starting to take shape. In winning Tuesday night's dramatic clash with Sassuolo 2-0, Roma strung together back-to-back victories for the first time since topping the league in late October, and the new faces brought in have added fresh impetus to a team that had been in a downward spiral since November.
