Paris Saint-Germain kick off Ligue 1 season in Bastia

Paris Saint-Germain will kick off the defence of their Ligue 1 title next season with a lengthy trip to Bastia.

Laurent Blanc's men will start their bid to win the league for a fifth time in a row with a visit to the Mediterranean island of Corsica on the weekend of Aug. 12.

Bastia finished 10th in the most recent campaign, 46 points behind the six-time French champions. PSG won both matches between the sides 2-0.

Nancy secure promotion to Ligue 1 with win over Sochaux

Nancy have joined Dijon in winning promotion to Ligue 1 following their 1-0 victory over Sochaux.

The Thistles were relegated in 2013 but, after a solitary goal from Clement Lenglet at the Stade Marcel Picot boosted them 12 points clear of fourth-placed Le Havre, their ascent was confirmed.

Dijon are already sure of a top-three berth while Metz, Le Havre, Red Star, Clermont and Auxerre remain in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Lens out of Coupe de la Ligue

Ligue 2 leaders Lens are out of the Coupe de la Ligue after suffering a 4-3 defeat at the hands of AS Creteil.

Lens took the lead through Adamo Coulibaly, but Creteil took control of the match through goals to Jean-Michel Lesage, Ibrahima Seck and Marcel Essombe.

Lens made it 3-2 with Pierre Ducasse finding the back of the net, but Creteil again responded with another goal to Lesage.

Deme Ndiaye rounded out the scoring with two minutes remaining in the match.

Newcastle sign Sissoko

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko, making him the club's fourth new signing of the window.

Sissoko, 23, has put pen-to-paper on a six-and-a-half year deal at St. James' Park and will wear the No. 7 shirt. He played nearly 200 times for Toulouse but had been frozen out of the first team picture after threatening to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Magpies.

Nancy's Haidara on way to Newcastle

Nancy defender Massadio Haidara will be joining Newcastle after a deal was agreed, the French Ligue 1 club have announced on their website.

Haidara, 20, will travel to Newcastle for a medical, with the switch likely to be finalised on Tuesday. The Magpies tabled an offer four days ago, but it had been thought he was hoping for a switch to Serie A.
