Spurs crash out of the round of 32 after conceding twice at home and going down to ten men after Dele Alli was sent off.

Ten-man Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the Europa League in the round of 32 after losing 3-2 on aggregate following Thursday's 2-2 second-leg draw against Belgian club Gent at Wembley.

Harry Kane's own goal and Dele Alli's first-half red card were too much to overcome as Mauricio Pochettino's men failed to reach the quarterfinals of the competition for a fourth consecutive campaign.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's hat trick gave Manchester United a 3-0 win against St Etienne in a Europa League round of 32 first-leg clash at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in unusual circumstances after 15 minutes when his free kick struck the St Etienne wall and deflected towards goal leaving St Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier wrong-footed and stranded before crawling over the line.

Veteran Anderlecht defender Olivier Deschacht is facing a €100,000 fine for breaching Belgian football's betting laws for players, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

Deschacht was told in December he would not face court over claims bets on Anderlecht games were placed via an online account created in his name in 2008, but that the matter was being passed to Belgium's Betting Commission.

Francois Van der Elst helped the Cosmos win the Soccer Bowl in 1980.

Former Belgium striker Francois "Swat" Van der Elst died on Wednesday. He was 62.

Van der Elst suffered a heart attack on New Year's Day and was kept in an artificial coma before he died, his fomer club Anderlecht said.

With Anderlecht in the 1970s, the striker won two national titles, two European Cup Winners' Cups and two European Super Cups during a six-year spell.
