Who is really leading the charge in the PSL?

With the South African Premier Soccer League fixtures again thrown into a shambles by SuperSport United's run to the CAF Confederation Cup Final, it is tough to gauge just who is in command in the title race this season.

SuperSport have played half the number of matches (six) of leaders Baroka FC, and while there is something to be said for getting points on the board, it is clear that the Limpopo club are in something of a false position.

KweséESPN takes a look at the number of points per...

Goals dry up in PSL as Kaizer Chiefs thank lady luck against AmaZulu

There was a dearth of goals in South Africa's Premier Soccer League on Wednesday night with three of the four matches finishing in goalless draws and the other a 1-1 stalemate between Free State Stars and Chippa United.

Included was a 0-0 draw between AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs at a rain-soaked King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, where the home side missed a penalty and the chance to send AmaKhosi to another defeat.

Rhulani Manzini had the opportunity to give AmaZulu all three points but drilled his...

PSL wrap: Wins for Pirates, SuperSport

Orlando Pirates moved up to second in the Premier Soccer League standings following a 1-0 win against Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday evening.

The Buccaneers endured their worst-ever campaign last season, but have started life under Milutin Sredojevic much improved. They moved up to second following the win against a struggling Urban Warriors side, with Ghanaian forward Bernard Morrison getting the only goal.

That leaves Pirates level on points with surprise-package Maritzburg United, who remain unbeaten...

PSL wrap: Kaizer Chiefs held in league opener

Kaizer Chiefs let a lead slip in Bloemfontein in their Premier League opener on Sunday to mount more pressure on coach Steve Komphela.

The Amakhosi were desperate for a good start following last weekend's first round MTN8 Cup exit, and got it early on against Celtic when Erick Mathoho headed home from a free-kick.

However, Lorenzo Gordinho's handball in the 75th minute allowed Atusaye Nyondo a chance to equalize from the spot, and the Malawian made no mistake from the spot.

In the day's other game,...

AmaZulu return to PSL leaves bitter taste

The decision of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to allow second-tier AmaZulu to acquire the top-flight status of newly-promoted Thanda Royal Zulu merely confirms that football in South Africa is business and, it could be argued, lacks sporting integrity.

On the face of it, you might wonder what all the fuss is about? It was a willing buyer, willing seller arrangement that leaves the owners of both clubs happy with the decision.

But what about players, the fans and the local Umhlathuze municipality,...
